What do all you out there pay for a DSST exam? I just got a price of $140, which seems very high to me. They just raised the CLEP from $95 to $97, (a different college)
This is Western New York. Are these prices average or inflated?

That's high. They are charging you a huge testing center fee. You'll have to write 2 checks, one to DSST and one to the college. DSST exams cost $80
DSST - GetCollegeCredit.com so if you are paying $140, then that's a $60 test fee per test . My college doesn't charge a fee to take DSSTs at all. I vote to keep looking around, you are going to be racking up serious fees after a few tests.

MY cost for DSST at the local CC in upstate NY ( they only do paper based) is $15 to the college and $80 to Prometric.

The fees for the Dantes and CLEP exams are the same regardless of where you take them. What varies are the fees charged by the test centers to proctor the exams.
The community college where I took the DSSTs charges $30 to proctor exams - they offer CLEP, Dantes, Microsoft, and the full Prometric and Pearson VUE range, plus they'll proctor exams for distance learning classes. If you've got $30 and a computer or paper exam to take, they'll watch you take it.
Anyway, a $27 proctoring fee for the $70 CLEP isn't too bad. A $60 proctoring fee for the $80 Dantes exam is ridiculous. I hope you can find an alternative test site!
EDIT: we're all jumping on this question, eh?

I agree with all the others who are 'jumping on this question'. lol
That price quote is too high! For DSST's I pay a $25.00 proctoring fee and $80.00 to Dantes.

I concur (since everyone else was saying they agreed I thought I'd be different). That is way too much of a "service fee". I pay $15 at my testing center for Dantes tests and if I take 2 in one day, I only pay the $15 not $30 bucks. What a deal!!!!

JackZack,
Did you find another, more reasonably priced institution around Buffalo for DSST? Also, any idea which ones offer weekend/late hours testing?
SUNY Buffalo for CLEP is cheap and cheerful, for what its worth. They have some Saturdays available as well.

$15 at NSU testing fees, recently requires money order for that as so many people gave them bad checks. No cash. They do both DSST and CLEPs.
If my memory is correct, BC charged $21 or $25.
