I’m still waiting to get my transfer of credit evaluation but I think I have a reasonable idea of what the end result will be. I’m transferring over 72 credits from 2 previous colleges and I think they will cover 12 of the general education requirements. I’m hoping — but I don’t know — that they will also cover the necessary electives. (I completed 54 credits at a graphic design school, so my hope is that enough of them will cover the 18 or so needed for electives.) In the last few weeks while waiting to hear back, I’ve completed 28 credits from study.com (Accounting 101 / 201 / 202) and Sophia (Environmental Science, Nutrition, Human Biology, Human Biology Lab, Business Law 1, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics.)
I’m planning to complete Intro to Business and Spanish at Sophia next. I’m pretty sure I will also need business math and sociology, but I’m waiting for the transfer evaluation first. I plan on doing ENG 121 at the school.
Study.com will also allow me to cover BUS 220, BUS 464, BUS 348, BUS 415 and COM 210. One question is, is there any reason to do any of those at UMPI instead? I like the format of Study.com so far, but wasn’t sure if the UMPI courses had any advantage. Also wondering, in case I go for a CPA later, if it will make a difference where I take those (I’m hoping the study.com course names would appear on the transcript, even if the grades don’t, and it would be fine.)
Finally, it seems like the courses I must take at UMPI no matter what are: BUS 200, BUS 242, BUS 325, BUS 352, BUS 376, BUS 377, BUS 378, BUS 440, BUS 469, BUS 489. Just wondering if any of those stand out as being particularly quick, or time-consuming, so I have a better idea of how to pace myself. I got displaced from my job in late June and have 8+ more months of full severance, so I’m able to commit a lot of time to this for the rest of the year. If it’s a situation where those core accounting classes are quite lengthy and I should only expect to get through 4 a session — or whatever — that will slightly alter my game plan

Depending on your state, CPA requirements might want 150+ credits and a certain number of those need to be graded credits. SDC/Sophia credits are not graded credits. In general, it'll be cheaper to do an extra session (or two) at UMPI now than it would be to get a Master's degree later. If there is a good likelihood of you taking the CPA later, I wowuld go ahead and make sure that you're able to hit those requirements with UMPI. If you probably won't take the CPA, I wouldn't bother trying to meet CPA requirements now.

Yeah my hope is that the graphic design credits will be allowed to transfer, despite most of them not “counting” towards anything, in which case I will be over 150 by the time I finish all the required classes

You will need to check with your state on the CPA requirements as they're different for every state. My state requires a specific number of accounting RA credits and specific accounting courses. Study UL courses have more work than UMPI. UMPI has ungraded quizzes that are VERY short. Some classes have Milestones which are short answer questions that are ungraded. And then the Final Assessment which is 1 assignment. There won't be any exams beginning Fall 1.

Yeah, I’ll have to keep looking— my state requires 24 credits of intermediate and advanced accounting classes, which I will have by the end of this. But I can’t find an answer as to whether they would have a problem with some of them transferring over from study.com

What lingo are they using? Every state has a website where they list the licensing requirements.

Hello, fellow future accountant. I'm in a similar boat as you but I've decided to pursue the Master's in Accounting (MAcc) at WGU after UMPI for two reasons. Primarily so my state (FL) doesn't have a reason to deny my UL accounting/business coursework and to hit the 150 hours. And secondly, I believe that I can finish in one term and it will better prepare me for the CPA exam and possibly give me a salary jump when I decide to enter the accounting world formally.
As far as yor previous question about the courses. Since exams are going away in the Fall, I'm not sure what projects will replace the exams in BUS 325, BUS352, and BUS 440. Although BUS 325 is a long-ish exam course now (I'm 4 days in so far, hoping to finish it tomorrow), BUS 352 and BUS 440 were short exam courses and I finished both in under 3 days each. I'd say that you should complete them in two parallel tracks that start with you enrolling in BUS 200 and BUS 352, then:
Track 1: BUS 200 --> BUS 242 --> BUS 440 --> BUS 469 --> BUS 489
Track 2: BUS 352 --> BUS 325 --> BUS 377 --> BUS 378 --> BUS 376
This is sort of a natural progression in difficulty and leaves the more time-consuming courses towards the end of the term. If you can get to BUS 469 in Track 1 and BUS 377 or 378 in Track 2 by the end of the first term, then you should be able to completely finish in the second term. I will warn you though. Use the Master Review Thread and plan accordingly. The last two courses BUS 469 and BUS 489 are LONGGG. Don't make the mistake that I did and add them with only 10 days left. I'm going to have to drop them because I don't have enough time to get a draft attempt before the end of this term. Lesson Learned on my part. Good Luck!

What are these tracks you're talking about?

At UMPI, you're allowed to have 2 courses open at once. Instead of doing the accounting courses in a semi-random order, you do them in parallel as outlined above.

Nothing at UMPI refers to tracks. Certain courses have to be taken in a specific order due to prereqs, but there's few courses at UMPI that have prereqs. You're free to take most courses in any order you want.
