Confused about TESU new reqs. Should I signup late reg/enroll now?
#1
To be honest I don't yet understand Capstones and Cornerstones other than some high level overviews I have read online.

I've been picking at my math requirements through ALEKS (for faaaarrrr too long) but I've seen some talk here about registering or enrolling with TESU by April 16th or late registering by April 21st.

Because I am at the extremely early stages, having zero credits, I'm trying to determine if I should be enrolling under the late deadline or just stay on the sidelines and keep working on ALEKS before moving onto other ACE credits, etc.

Appreciate any advice.

May have answered my own question. The sheer fact that I have zero credits pretty clearly suggests, based on other threads I have found (thanks dfrecore!) that I should wait regardless of what TESU changes right now. Thanks anyway!

I had issues with my education and just barely passed high school. I took courses at a small local private college but that private school went bankrupt and defunct, credits are non transferable. I then went to a nationally accredited school, and guess what.. While I was enrolled, it LOST accreditation. I felt school was not for me, so I just worked any job I could find.

I was in your shoes many moons ago, and decided to put my foot where my mouth was and start working hard in 2016.
The best thing is now I have over 30 credits from nothing 2-3 months ago. I applied to TESU but have not enrolled yet, as I am planning to use the cornerstone for GPA purposes, then transfer everything and pay the residency waiver fee along with the grad fee. This is after working 15+ years, without advancement and thinking of going back to school.

My friend, you can start by creating an ACE Credit Registry account to store your future credits.

1) Sign up for the free courses mentioned in your previous post, several months ago.
2) Work hard on the free credits, do so while you complete your ALEKS courses.
3) You will have more drive and determination when you gain more credits and pass.
Note: You can check out previous threads on getting a degree plan, but it's on you to start.
If you want, you can follow this and finish with 30 credits for under $100 and in less time.

Thank you for the advice. I, also, had issues with high school. I didn't mind the tests but I really didn't enjoy what I considered boring homework. That cost me in the end and I had to take adult learning where passing my GED test gave me the last two credits necessary for my high school diploma. So I have both. But that's where education ended for me.

I haven't had the rug pulled out on me like you have with school insolvency and accreditation issues but it's nice to read about your success thus far mixed with some perseverance.

I've been paying ALEKS since my first post on this site. So to say I have overpaid for those three credit hours (or more) is a dramatic understatement. I pick at it here and there but running my business has just really left little time to consistently put focus into completing that course. And every time I go back there I get hit with an assessment (due to my prolonged absence) and by the time I complete that I don't have that much time to progress on the pie chart. I'm just going to have stop making excuses and letting things get in the way.

I found some of your other posts related to ALEKS tips, etc. I should have thought about searching for tips/tricks for ALEKS earlier.

I have the degree plan from dfrecore that she has graciously shared with this forum. Among the options she listed in there, I don't see much reason to deviate from her plan. Though I don't know how the cornerstone fits into her outlined plan. Nevertheless, seems like a good path to follow, generally speaking since I intend to graduate through TESU, but I agree with your numbered list and targeting the free courses while trying to figure out how to beat this ALEKS stuff.

I think I misunderstood the ACE website the last time I went there and thought I had to have qualifying work before creating an account. I just finished my application there and should have some registered credits soon.

Thanks again for the advice!

The Cornerstone is 1cr (I think I read that), and will fit in either under GenEd, or in your AOS, or else they will add the requirement somewhere and it will fit in there. I think they will make it very clear once they post it (after May 25th or so). I wouldn't worry about it.
