Colorado Technical University - MBA
#1
Hello all. I just recently completed my BSBA at TESU and looking to get my MBA. With my job and the grant that CTU offers, I would be getting my MBA 100% free without even waiting for reimbursement either. CTU wasn't my first option but free is free. My question is has anyone done the MBA at the school? It's 5 week courses which is good. My main concern is that I'm told there are some required group assignments. Has anyone have experience in how it turned out for them.

Hey 908ben, welcome to the board! Congrats on the BSBA at TESU! Did you get an AOS or did you go with the generic GM option? Wow, first time posting and you already applied to CTU MBA. I think you're the first person from the board who is going there. I don't have much advice, did you check their reviews on several websites? I believe a few reviews were in regards to their MBA and other Masters.

You'll get a "mix/match" of mish-mashed reviews, some are for and against CTU... the best thing is to try it out and see if you're interested in the degree and the courses offered at the school, the way it operates, the staff, learning system, etc. BTW, what other schools would you have gone for and how much tuition assistance are you maxing out? You can see if a Competency Based Education degree would work, from say the WGU MBA.

Group projects are VERY common in MBA programs, finding one without at least a few would be a unicorn indeed. It's part of the education because IRL you do group projects.

Certificate for the Study of Capitalism at University of Arkansas finished July 2022

MBA with Hellenic American University started March 29th, 2021 , finished May 20th 2022, Graduated in June 2022

BSBA at Thomas Edison State University started May 21st 2020 with Sophia and SDC, finished Jan 24th, 2021, Graduated on 12 March of 2021

Total time to complete both degrees 2 years exactly, total cost just a small bit over $10,000

Thanks Degreeforum!

Northcentral. Heriot-Watt as of last I looked into it. Adams State has a correspondence MBA designed for incarcerated students.

I went all in with the degree hacking. I legitimately only took 2 courses in TESU. I had a AS at a community college that transfered over. I then took all the Study.com, Sophia.org and then found a CSM cert course that gave me 3 credits to cover a TESU course. I was left with 1 class and a Capstone to be completed at TESU. I didn't meet the minimum residency so there was supposed to be a $3,200 fee for that but luckily I found out that I'm exempt from paying for that because of an arrangement they have with my job.

I honestly wanted to go to University of AZ or Trident University because I met with both advisors and they don't require group assignments for their MBA program. However my job has a $150 per credit cap so I would be left paying the rest. I have a $5250 max per year but that per credit cap is a killer for alot of schools. With CTU , they will max me out at $150 per credit and the rest will be covered with what they call an Commitment Grant which I'm eligible for because of a partnership they have with my job. It's the only option I have to get a master's for free.

@908ben, Basically... If you have tuition assistance/reimbursement from work, you may want to do an UMPI MAOL and then do the CTU MBA next. You can get them both FREE! UMPI is $2000/term, you can pay $4000/year. It'll end up as $133/cred hour... once that is done, you can go for the MBA at CTU next year and do what you're planning... That's how I would slice it and get the max out of the tuition, but you want to check with your company you can do that first before treading!

Looks like its a competency based learning similar to the CSM cert I had to go through...very interesting. How realistic is it with how many classes can be done within a 8 week session? This sounds like a module type thing. I'm guessing no papers? In also not sure how a flat $2000 fee would work with reimbursement with a per credit cap. Not sure how they would break that down. I guess I got alot of googling to do lol

Hi. Two people from here finished in two sessions! All it cost them was $4K at most... however, both of them did complete an undergraduate degree and transferred 3 courses from that into the Masters program. Here are a few links and the two people who did it... I am thinking if you no commitments and have the energy, time to put into it like they have, you can possibly complete it in the same time frame.

You really want to speak with work in regards to the reimbursement and how that can be done. If you take two sessions, it will cost $4K, your limit may have been reached or very close to it. Inform them, it'll be $2000/session and you can finish half credits at max with that. The other session, also $2K, and the remainder of the credits. Of course, you also want to see if UMPI can allow transfers into their program to take lesser courses.

This is very interesting. I'll have to follow up with this with edcor and the school in how this will be broken down. I'm all in if this can expedite my degree.
