Colorado Mountain College - Review Thread

I am starting this thread to discuss my experience with Colorado Mountain College. CMC stands out for their low distance education tuition price for military, military dependents, and veterans. At $57 per credit it is hard to beat. I am enrolled in 9 credits and paid $513. I love the fact that they don't pass on the price of their Canvas LMS to the students. At my local CC, there is a $100 per credit premium to cover the cost of Blackboard. Because I am taking a Chemistry class, there is a $200 lab kit that I had to purchase but the textbook was reasonable at less than $80. College Algebra uses the same expensive textbook that most of the Community Colleges in Colorado use. The syllabus calls for a textbook bundle but the homework is not graded so I skipped the access code that makes it impossible to purchase a used book. I will wait and see if there are any online materials required for grading. Algebra is one of the courses that requires campus visits, but most do not. I will have to take my three proctored courses at a CMC campus. Chemistry doesn't have this requirement. The online offerings are sparse, but the price is right so I will be taking several courses before transferring to my local CC.

Registration for the first semester was pretty painless. As a first time student, one is required to email, fax, or mail the registration paperwork. After the first semester, students are allowed to register online.

I have completed the requirements for a BSBA-CIS at TESC but have decided to delay my graduation request to continue my undergraduate education. I still have 2 years of American Opportunity Credit and 120 hours of my state tuition stipend that I have not used. At this point I am keeping my options open and strengthening my undergraduate math and science knowledge.

Unless I read something wrong, the Out-of-State Resident tuition is $317/credit hour unless you can qualify for one of the discounts.

Love that pricing for veterans. I should look into at some point; however, I am about to enroll in the capstone for the BSAST at TESC so I may put that on hold. If I decide to pursue a 2nd bachelors I will seek some classes through them.

Are you considering a double major? I wanted to but decided to wrap it up quickly, so I can start on a masters degree. From a CIS perspective Other than InfoSec two that interested me were Homeland Security or Natural Sciences and Math.

I am not working on a double major. I have decided to plug away at the long journey to a Computer Engineering degree. In Colorado, there is a state stipend that replaces state support for colleges and universities. Once a person is awarded a Bachelor's degree they only qualify for 30 credits of the stipend. By delaying my degree I qualify for 120 credits of the stipend.

I was impressed with their attitude about the discount price. On my application I noted I was a veteran and they emailed and asked for a copy of my DD214 so they could make sure I received the discount tuition.

Just signed up for a course throudh CMC. The process was EASY, and the people were so helpful and responsive. And the cost? As a veteran, my lower-level undergraduate credit per hour (~$57) is almost 1/3 of the credit per hour at my local community college. Using Canvas will be new for me, and a bit of a challenge. (It's the program CMC uses for communicating with students, quizzes, growing grapes*, etc.) When I finish this course, and if the level of service remains this high, I'll definitely post in the military forum with additional feedback and encourage other vets and active duty folks to check it out.

*I'm not sure that Canvas grows grapes, but I'm not sure that it doesn't 'cause I'm not sure of all the things it DOES do!
