College Mathematics CLEP
#1
Hi all,

I am hoping to take the College Mathematics CLEP in the next few weeks. I have been taking Kaplan and Peterson's practice tests, scoring 57%, 63%, 73% on the 3 Kaplan tests and 54% and 49% on the Peterson's tests I have taken so far. Are these scores adequate? If not what should I be shooting to score on these practice tests? If there are any prep sites anyone could point me towards that would be really great. As well as any tips for this exam.

I did take the Natural Science CLEP some months back after consistently making under 50% scores on practice tests and ended up passing. So using that as a gauge it would seem I am scoring ok, but I am nervous as always, especially because some of the Peterson's material seems very out of the blue and their function and probability questions are difficult for me to comprehend a definite yikes! factor.

Thanks!

I'd say you might want to practice a bit more. Personally I'd only stop when I'm getting 90% or more right (but I also want to be really confident that I'll pass, 70-80% is probably safe enough).

ALEKS is really good for practice, and if your school will accept it their math classes are ACE approved. Either way, it's a good resource (but costs 20USD/mo).

I can't say about the Kaplan's but I know you're doing pretty good on the Petersons.

I'd suggest getting the Official CLEP Study Guide and take that practice test. You can probably find this at your library.
I scored maybe a 57ish on the official. I got a 67 on the real thing.

Since CLEPs are pass/fail I didn't shoot for an "80"

This test was WAY easier than the Petersons.
CLEP- College Mathematics - 67
CLEP- Analyzing and Interpreting Literature - 67

I'd say go for it! In my opinion the petersons was WAY harder than my test heck most of the questions I got write on the petersons practice test were just guesses. I used IC and had a good understanding of most of it topics. I think I scored mid to high 40's on the petersons and scored a 68 on the CLEP. I think you got this!

Hello all,

I took the test Wednesday and passed!!

I got a 57. Lower than I had expected but I'm not really a math person. I walked out of the testing center wondering what on earth was even on the test, the nerves had whipped my mind lol. One thing that I did notice was that there were more graph type questions than any of the practice books had portrayed. Also, there was like one permutation question that I can remember... something I had studied hard in the last hours.

Thanks for all the encouragement and feedback everyone!
