College Mathematics
#1
Math has been a struggle of mine, I had to build my math skills since I essentially took my GED when I was 16(4 years ago), then went onto taking several non math related CLEP/DSST/Etc tests. Math was a disconnect, and I essentially taught myself through several grades. I'm paranoid about failing since I'll be out $200 on airline tickets alone(From Big Island to Oahu) along with the other implications of failing.

I'm getting 60 on the REA tests, I've watched around 12 hours of Khan academy videos,
plus I've scraped information from FreeClepPrep(his material he suggests seems way to easy compared to REA) I also took the practice test from the Official CLEP Prep study guide and got 53 or so a week ago. Finally I scored around the same on the commex book a week or two ago.

Am I on the right track here?
Are there any suggests, hints, or such you can suggest to me?

why not try aleks.com

it ranges from beginning alg (not applicable to most degrees), up to college alg and trig.
This goes beyond college math clep, and is only $20 a month.
DSST- General Anthropology - 52, Intro to Computer - 469, Technical Writing - 54, DSST Ethics in America - 59 (1996),
CLEP- Sociology -54, College Math - 550(1996), CLEP Principles of Management - 60 (1996)

I'm on a schedule so I'm stuck to leave next Wednesday. I'm still due for Precalculus and Statistics, I'll look at aleks for additional study material to what I have. Hopefully once I pass College Mathematics I'll score decently, and have a good base for my other future math tests.

Practice! Math is all about practicing. You're on the right track with those practice tests but you are not scoring particularly high--so I would take the the areas in which you are not scoring highly and try to find practice problems--which I think Khan may have at this point. Just work it hard. You're moving on to some pretty tough math so the more relevant practice you can find, the better. Good luck!

Thanks, I'll keep at it. I'll try to find some material to use for practice, I'm surprised the REA and Comix books don't have many practice problems.

Well I had some things come up so I can't go, I was going for medical stuff along with my siblings but that is being pushed off for a week.
So more time. There is so much to perfect, or at least understand intently enough to solve a variety of kinds of problems with numerous variations.
One odd/somewhat drab question: Do they have card questions on the test?
I've never played cards and do not know how many hearts, spades, etc are in a deck.
REA and instacert have practice questions that use them, but I'm curious since probability and statistics are a large part of the test.

Delay after delay.
I took it today, I had like 5 hours of sleep, took a plane ride at 5 am, did some doctor visit malarky, then took the test at 11AM.
Scored 65, I think if I were a bit more there maybe, just maybe 70. But I only had 7 minutes left after reviewing each question over twice.
I was sick of it, and I knew I'd probably pass. It's a very broad subject, zippy99 covers it well, but study everything well since it left out imaginary numbers, had only one or two function question, no number bases, and etc. Many of the questions could be figured out even if you didn't know that "type", but it takes time, and with more study you do not have to assimilate solutions on the spot.
Probability, permunations, combinations, and such were rudimentary. Know the basic rules of math and I bet you could get a 55 or so.
But being paranoid, having relearned math over months I couldn't afford to fail.

Khan academy is awesome, REA's books have simplified/not extensive enough material, (you'd pass but it's more of a resfresher if you will),
Comix was extensive, College boards practice exams were close, but not spot on. Overall weigh out the possibility of failure and how much you want to study Smile
