College Composition
#1
Hi all, I am posting my first thread after having read through the forums for several weeks. So much good information here! I look forward to contributing.

I am taking my College Composition CLEP this afternoon, and while I am comfortable with the multiple choice portion of the test I am concerned about getting stuck on the essays. I think my writing skills are good enough, but I worry about coming up with facts to support my opinion. I am just wondering what the essay section has been like for those of you who have taken it. Are the topics pretty universal, or do they require a lot of background knowledge of history/current events/politics? My fear isn't necessarily about being able to write an essay, but more about getting a topic that I know nothing about.

Bummer! I saw this a day late. Did you take the CLEP yesterday? I was going to tell you that I had the exact same fears going into this test! I also was very confident for the multiple choice section, but I wasn't sure if I would get an essay topic that I had absolutely no knowledge on. However, I believe the topics they pick are universal; I do not remember what mine were, but I do remember not having trouble trying to support my opinion. I've heard it said that they are looking more for HOW you write the essays (good grammar, punctuation, good structure of an essay) rather than if you know the information. Hope this helps! (Even if it's a day late!)
