College Algebra credit for TESC - Best non-Test-only way to obtain?
#11
I agree ALEKS is the way to go..

I did Beginner algebra in 10 hours, Intermediate Algebra in 10hour 20minutes and when i attempted College Algebra, i ended up with a 75% on my first assessment. After you test at 70% or higher log-on to your ACE account which is free and add the course through the links on the left of your ACE transcript page. I believe ACE will then forward the request to the ALEKS system to see if "YOUR NAME" is in their database. Once it matches then they will approve you for credit.

And as i had another 4 weeks on my account. I started on Intro to statistics.. which while fun.. is tedious. hopefully i will be done with it inside this week. At which point i will attempt Pre-Calculus as my account expires on the 25th of this month.

So here are some suggestions:

1. When you feel you have understand a problem set and dont want to keep doing practice problems. Move onto the next subject. Once you clear whatever problems you have available to learn this way. Log out of your student account. Log into your master account. Force a "New Assessment" through the student progress report page.

2. It usually helps to take a print out of the "Explain" for each problem set as it makes it easier for you to remember how to solve a particular problem set. I dint need it for Algebra. But i have started doing it for Statistics.

3. Don't Rush. Its mentioned before you start each assessment and its a valid point. You can log out at any time during an exam and when you log back in the problem will still be there. I found that with "Word based problems" it sometimes helps quite a lot to write down the basic data of the question and log out. Sometimes not thinking about a problem is the best way to solve a problem.

So, one can be their own student?

Sorry if that's a dumb question - I haven't signed up for ALEKS yet but I've been looking over their site and even did the brief free trial (3 hour one) and I'm still confused.

I think I had decided I had to do the "Student Module" type account as an adult student, but can I use the Master Account setup and still get ACE transcripts?

ETA: just made a free trial of a Master Account and this link came up within it which I *think* answers my question with a yes... lol

Total Newb Big Grin - Enrolled at TESC for AA, eventually going for BA Psych.

Thanks to everyone who provides such awesome information on this site, I'm slowly getting the hang of this crazy process.

CLEP - Intro. Psych. - 63, A&I Literature - 72, Intro. Edu. Psych. - 59
ALEKS - Intermediate Algebra
FEMA - 12 Credits

No worries from what i understand on this and the sister forum. There are no dumb questions.. only dumb statements. People here are amazingly helpful so its called passing the buck forward.

In answer to your question. When you create an account you will get both a master and a student account. A master account is where you choose the subject for the student.

BTW you will probably want to make sure you choose "Higher Education- College Algebra" as there are many choices. I did forward a question to ALEKS and they said that it dint matter as it was the same across the modules and would be acceptable for ACE but as i chose higher ed- Coll Algebra and i did get approved for ACE i would suggest that choice.
