What is the best book to start studying from?right now i am preparing from free clep prep . I studied bio in high school and starting this all over again after 12 years.

If you are looking for an actual book to study from you might be able to pick up one of CLEP's recommended textbooks:

Or you can study the sample questions they provide in their book (CLEP 2012 Study Guide).

Thanks. I got official clep guide today from the lib. will do the same. regarding the syllabus, do u think just the online resources from freeclepprep is enough to pass this clep??or i need to study in details?

You may want to check out the list of resources that the college board (the makers of the CLEP) has on there website... Study Resources | CLEP
I'd especially recommend the EMC Online Biology Book.... An On-Line Biology Book (you'll notice that FCP and the College board both link to this)
Go through that, for the material that's more difficult to grasp or complex, look for a video explanation (from youtube, khan university, etc.). Before taking the CLEP, take some PTs from the OSCG, the REA, and Peterson's. That's a total of 7 PTs but I'd highly recommend taking all of them if you don't like or know biology well (like me). You'll quickly find out which areas of biology you're comfortable with and which ones you'll need more study with. This test does have a reputation for a reason (covers a wide spectrum and can delve pretty deep), but with some study is more then doable.

I took this test not even a year ago. The Biology Demystified book helped me a lot.

Also, the REA book for Biology gives a lot of information with a bit less depth. The practice tests in REA are not really accurate to the actual test, but they can be used as a study tool. Just don't get too scared if you are running at a score around 50.

In someways this test is nice because you can study effectively for it by learning plant/animal structure, functions, and terms. Get these down and take the test!

I second what Publius said. Definitely do some practice tests. You can check with your local library and see if you can access the Testing and Education Center for the Peterson tests. Or try searching the forum and trying the links you find. Also, the REA is great and so is the Biology Smart by Deborah Guest. If you are a paying member you can have access to the Specific Exam Feedback which is great too.

thanks guys. will try to do my best. Right now I am preparing from free clep prep, REA book and other online sites. I am planning to take this exam somewhere around 1st week of march. Will let you know my results. Thanks once again for the guidance.You all are very helpful
