Clep French and German
#1
Does anyone know of a site where I can find practice cleps for French and German? Also, what is the maximum number of credits Excelsior will allow for languages in a BA Psych or possibly a BS psych? Thanks as always, Johanna

Hi Johanna,

I might be wrong, but I doubt you will find a mock exam for the languages because the CLEP language exams contain a substantial aural component.

I have not seen or heard anything to suggest that Excelsior limits the number of language credits you can apply towards your degree. As long as you fulfill the required 'spread' of Humanities; Social Science & History; and Natural Science & Math; you can fill up the remaining elective credits with great flexibility.

Bachelor of Science Minimum Requirements:

At least...
60 Total Arts & Science Credits

Including at least...
9/9/6 Spread of Humanities, SS&H, and NS&M (9 credits in any two, and 6 in the other)

Bachelor of Arts Minimum Requirements:

At least...
90 Total Arts & Science Credits

Including at least...
12/12/9 Spread of Humanities, SS&H, and NS&M (12 credits in any two, and 9 in the other)

Of course, Excelsior has the final word! So you should confirm everything with them.

Hope this helps,
Snazzlefrag
My name is Rob

Thanks, Snazz, yes, your comments always help. Even when you post them at 3 AM, at which hour I doubt I could even put a sentence together, let alone think!

Joanna, I took both French and German, 12 credit each, for my Excelsior BS in Business. The only sample tests I found are the ones in the CLEP preparation book (about 60 questions). They obviously only test the written part of your vocabulary. There is a Spanish CLEP test out on the Peterson Airforce site if you want an idea on how the test is split up (listening vs. writing). I am not sure where you are from but I am Dutch, with a VWO diploma. German and French were very easy for me. I scored in the 70's with both exams without preparation. The tests were most likely "derde klas" VWO. The audible parts were a little bit difficult, mainly because of the bad quality of the audio that makes some parts almost inaudible. Write everything down that you hear because the questions are about really minute things that don't matter to the general story. Vocabulary/basic grammar is definately the largest part of the test.

Anyway, let me know if you have any other questions, I'll be glad to help.
