Dear Steve et al,
Does one's grade at the University fluctuate with the score you get on Dantes or Clep, or is it a pass/fail situation? I am concerned about my GPA.
Also, what is the minimum score needed, and what is the percentage, would you say, of questions that need to be answered correctly to pass?
Thank you,

Depends upon the school. Most schools will simply score a CLEP or DANTES test on a pass/fail basis. Excelsior will give grades on SOME tests based upon the score. Usually an 'A' score is not much higher than the simple passing score and it varies from test to test. As an example, the DANTES Ethics in America test, a 'C' is 46, a 'B' is 48, and an 'A' is a 52.
If the school does give you a grade on a CLEP or DANTES test, then it will be calculated in your GPA (unless they say otherwise).
As for the percentage of questions to answer correctly to pass, it is generally accepted that if you answer 50% of the questions correctly, you will barely pass. I personally shoot for answering 75% or more of the questions correctly and so far, that works for me. I typically score in the high 60s to upper 70s on tests. Max. score possible is 80.
