I was playing a gig with my jazz band last night, bought a beer, and got one of those cocktail napkins with trivia questions printed on it. It occurred to me that there is no APA or other citation style for cocktail napkins. Now of course I understand that cocktail napkins are not primary or even secondary sources, but if that's where you learned a fact, shouldn't they get some credit? If I want to say in a paper that one's sense of hearing temporarily diminishes after eating a big meal (Cocktail Napkin, 2008), shouldn't I cite a fact like that? Can you think of any other unorthodox sources that ought to have citation styles?
Cocktail Napkin. (2008, June 2). Torrance, CA: Alpine Village Inn. Question 38.
2nd Microbrew Lager.

Shouldn't the napkin cite its source? Would make it ugly and not quite so fun--maybe in small print around the edge, like a border?

You know, you make an excellent point there, but the real question should be is where in the world do cocktail napkins get their trivia facts from?
If you don't want to really cite a cocktail napkin, type the fact in google and see if you can find the origin of the statistic/fact/trivia. Usually a fact like that will be printed (exactly as it was on the napkin) somewhere else.
if you do find some sort of origin of the fact or at least a site talking about it, cite that instead of the napkin. I know it's total fudgery but even the internet has more respect than a cocktail napkin.

Hey gcalvin....that is too funny...I'm sure we can think of a variety of "disposable" paper citations for you, but probably not fit for the IC forum!
I am sitting here thumbing thru my 5th edition APA Publication Manual as I work on a school paper with 23 references that I need to format for tomorrow morning...I decided I needed a break and here's where I came and look what I found! Thanks for the laugh! hilarious

How about the quotes you find on bathroom stalls? I've found some pretty profound thoughts there.
2nd Floor Women's Restroom (2008). Minneapolis, MN: Minneapolis International Airport. Northwest Airlines Hub. Third Stall from the Door.
