Hey, I have 78 credits, and am interested in a business degree. Probably accounting, or finance. I think I figured if I took a couple more dssts/cleps I could have 84 credits and only need to pay for one year at TESC. I would like to have any input on how to save the most money. I think I figured out tuition alone at TESC for 36 credits would be like $6600.00. If there is any cheaper way of finishing my degree, let me know. I don't think I can take any more than like 2-3 cleps/dssts. Thanks

TESC's Comprehensive Tuition Plan might work for you, but there's no way for anyone to accurately assist you without knowing what you already have credits/testing for. You might not need to take 36 credits at TESC, but, again who can tell based upon what you posted?

$6600/36= about $183 per credit. Not bad.
Louisiana State University Independent Study, even with new increased fees, is about $121 per credit -- and they offer accounting courses you'll need.
Can you take some of your courses at community college? That may save you some money.
The cheapest credit other than employer reimbursement is exam credit, so I would be sure of that 2-3 exam limit before paying out more.
I'll assume you have chosen TESC after a rigorous comparison and not plug Excelsior and their partnership option at this time

The tuition for 36 credits at the University of Wyoming is $5000, and you don't have to pay the really large enrollment and graduation fees that TESC charges. In fact, that $5000 could be reduced if you took some of their correspondence courses, which are $20/credit cheaper.
A school with similar tuition rates is Eastern New Mexico University. You get in-state tuition if you take less than 6 credits per semester.
American Public University, Columbia College and Northwestern State University are all nicely priced.
Then there is Aspen University (DETC, if that matters to you), where those 36 credits will only cost you $3600.00 if you pay for your courses while they are still running their $100/credit tuition deal.

I did exactly that. I clepped/dsst'd and B&M'd 87 credits and transferred them all in to the TESC comp plan. It cost me $6500, and even needing only 33, I'm going to take an additional one to get my $$ worth

I look at the complete cost - and having paid out something around $5000 for the first 87, I was glad to pay only $6500 for the remainder. I'd recommend it for anyone, as I'm one semester away from a BSOL degree. I'm fairly certain you could do the same with accounting or finance, IF you plan it out airtight.

As long as they will transfer as 300/400 level courses (where needed), that's the best way to do it in most cases.
