Cheap graduate courses w/out bachelors degree?
#1
Does anyone know of where graduate courses could be taken without a bachelors degree? I still have 9 credits to finish my Excelsior BSLA and could transfer 9 humanities related course credits towards a masters degree. If you know of any that are under $250 per credit hour they would be golden.

Where do you plan to get your masters? I'd start there so the credits are an exact fit.

They want the student to have a BA/BS already.

I've seen courses which can be taken for undergraduate or graduate credit, but they were limited to enrolled senior undergraduates in the specific degree program. Other than combined BS/MS programs, again limited to enrolled students, I can't think of any options. Maybe one of the really flexible programs like APU/AMU or WGU?

Remember, you don't have to wait until the actual conferral date before you can apply for graduate work. As soon as your graduation is approved, EC can issue a Letter of Completion that confirms that you've completed all the requirements for the bachelor's degree.

April 4 2009 through July 6 2009: 1 GRE subject exam + 1 Penn Foster credit + 11 DANTES exams = 61 credits. Average per-credit cost = $23.44.

I am just in a good spot right now where I could take 9 humanties related graduate credits and have them to apply to my BSLA and graduate. Then also have them applied to the MA in Humanities degree at the same time. It would all be perfect if I could only find those type of courses that wouldn't cost me a lot of money.

The University of Georgia has a few graduate level courses that can be taken through correspondence. As long as you're not actually enrolled at UGA, then there doesn't seem to be any mention of the bachelor's degree being required to enroll in the graduate courses. Different rules apply for UGA enrolled students.

Graduate courses are available in the fields of Accounting, English, Health Promotion & Behavior, and Management. Unfortunately, UGA has recently closed enrollment for some of the English courses. Here is the link: UGA Independent Study Course Offerings.

The fees are reasonable, unless you're a UGA out-of-state student. For those of us not enrolled at UGA (presumably most, if not all, of the people on this board), and for those who are enrolled at UGA but who are classified as Georgia residents for tuition purposes, the cost for these courses is currently $543 per course, i.e. $181 per semester credit, according to the website. Has anyone had experience transferring teacher professional development courses that are transcripted as academic graduate credits?

American Public University lets you register for your first semester of classes before you have to send in your bachelors degree confirmation. They have a Masters degree in humanities with quite a few courses to choose from. Bascially, you can do your application online, get your student id immediately and register for courses all within about 30 minutes. I am currently in their MBA program but will be changing to the MH next semester. The tuition is $275 a credit hour, not including books.

So, can you actually use graduate credits for the BSLA with EC? I want to confirm this.

Thanks.
