Charter Oak's Critical Thinking requirement
#1
Can someone tell me what CLEP/DSST exams would satisfy Charter Oak's Critical Thinking general education requirement? It's on page 45 of the current catalog. It states "0-3 cr" so does that mean it can be 0 credits ie. not required?

Critical Thinking ....................................................... 0-3 cr
Students will be able to organize, interpret, and evaluate ideas. May be met by taking any course in which a research paper, term paper, project or lab is required.

Not a COSC student, but I don't believe a CLEP/DSST will satisfy the requirement. I believe you need to either take a Critical Thinking course, in which case you'd earn credits; or take a course w/a research paper, project or lab, in which case you would earn 0 credits.

I cannot say for sure since I am not a COSC student, but I think that any of the following would satisfy this requirement:

DSST Ethics in America--3LL --WITH ESSAY (I think this would meet the ethics requirement and critical thinking requirement simultaneously)

If not, here's alternatives:
BYU PHIL 205 Deductive Logic--3LL
BYU PHIL 305 — Predicate Logic--3UL
OHIO PHIL 120 Principles of Reasoning--2.67LL

BYU Independent Study: http://ce.byu.edu/is/site/courses/se...t=85#to_course
Ohio University Credit By Exam & Independent Study:Combined

This is just a guess, so be sure to ask an adviser. This requirement isn't listed on their site where the other general education requirements are listed, so I am thinking it is either typical to be fulfilled along with another requirement, like I have listed with the DSST Ethics, or that it is okay not to fulfill it, in which case they should refer to it as a recommendation rather than a requirement. That makes it confusing!

Thanks for your reply Alissa.

Any COSC students out there who's met this requirement?

I wondered that, too. But I chose the DSST Ethics because it is a philosophy exam, and all the critical thinking courses I found were classified as "philosophy" courses. That is why I thought that one might be more suitable.

If we don't hear from a COSC student to clarify, I'll send off an email asking about this tomorrow.

Does that mean that none of the exams satisfy the Critical Thinking requirement? The legend given has no Critical Thinking listed:

b Behavioral/Social Science
d Ethical Decision Making
e Written Communication
g Global Understanding
