Charter Oak State College - New Degree in B.S. Business Administration

Tedium Wrote:I just got confirmation from the registrar that COSC does not accept the CSU Global CBEs for credit:

"Tedium,

Unfortunately no, we do not accept those Challenge Exams as credit. CSU treats those courses as transfer credit to test out of their requirements, because of this they are not designed to be transferable to other schools. Essentially they are treated as “non-resident credit”, and we only accept transfer of “resident credit”, aka courses actually taken at the school. I hope that explains it properly. Let me know if you have any questions."

Just in case anyone else was looking to use them.

Yep, there is a difference between TECEPs and CSU Global CBEs that I didn't think would matter, but it does. CSU Global CBEs are more like Uexcels, except Excelsior has obtained ACE approval for Uexcels. CSU Global CBE credits are designated with an "EX" similar to how Uexcels are designated with an "X" on the transcript. TECEPs are not ACE or NCCRS evaluated, but COSC accepts them because they are treated as resident credits rather than transfer credits. TECEP credits look no different than other credits on a transcript except that they are pass/fail. The course codes are exactly the same as they are for their online courses.

However, TESC has already confirmed a few times that they will accept CSU Global CBEs. I wonder how Excelsior would treat them.

Sorry for the editing, but I think COSC's line of thinking is inconsistent. They accept FEMA courses from an organization that is not even a college. FEMA courses don't have ACE or NCCRS approval.

FEMAs have ACE accreditation. ACE CREDIT | The National Guide to College Credit for Workforce Training

Some "on-ground" FEMA credits have or have had ACE approval, but the online professional development courses do not have ACE or NCCRS approval. That is why TESC no longer accepts them at all and Excelsior only accepts them if they have been processed through Frederick Community College at $80/ hour.

Yes, the FEMA IS courses that COSC accepts do not have ACE approval.

I am graduating in a few weeks from COSC. There is someone in my class who is being conferred with two degrees. She had to meet the concentration requirements for both and take two capstones and she is taking both concurrently. I am not sure if that was the original aim but Tedium mentions this a few posts back.

Long ago, I was a senior English Lit major before leaving college for a job.

A few months ago, I applied and was accepted by Excelsior into their BS - Liberal Arts program.

They say I need a one-hour "how to use Excelsior" type class, and a three-hour capstone, plus any other 14 credit hours, meaning probably CLEP tests.

My question is, assuming COSC gives me about the same transfer credit, what would I need to do to get a business degree instead?

I didn't take business classes in the past. I do have 20 years of business experience, though I doubt they award credit for life experiences.

Is it feasible to get most of the way there via CLEP, or would I be in for a much longer slog?

Any other options I should consider?

Thanks.

At a minimum you would need the required courses in Business Ethics, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Business Statistics. I am not sure what other credits you have and how they might transfer at COSU but I am sure others will chime in

I'm not sure why you revived a year old thread to ask your question.... But you have two, three or more options.
Depends on which school you want to enroll in and also the amount of credits they'll accept from what you have.

1) Get another evaluation from Excelsior and see what credits are needed to go into their BSBA.
2) Apply to COSC and get an evaluation on your credit and see also what they will provide you.
3) You can also try TESU and see also what credits are transferred to them as well.

Someone was asking a similar question here, see post below.
http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...plete.html

The three of them have similar degrees and the pricing is relatively close, with Excelsior a tad more.
There are other competency based programs, and they are your last option. Hope this helps.

For COSC, you must take two courses, the cornerstone and the capstone. You can test out of the other requirements. In addition to the general education requirements, you would need these courses for a Business degree:
