Hello,
I have a question about changing my degree when a new catalog is in effect. I'm enrolled with the per credit tuition plan under the catalog prior to 2015-2016. I'm currently pondering if I can/should change my track from the BSBA CIS to a general management or human resources degree. I just need to make sure I understand the consequence!
So...if I am enrolled under the previous catalog and I decide to switch my path, will my new track fall under the new catalog? I will be subject to the new requirements like civic engagement?
Thank you!

I would verify and get this in writing (or email) from the registrar before I do this. In the past, any degree change put you under the current catalog, and I don't really think this changed, probably just more bad advise from the call-center.
On a side note, I have the suspicion that the call-center is an outsource outfit. You never get the same person twice and the information is hit or miss. When you get transferred to the office, you get more concise, albeit, rude answers.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.
Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.
Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.
Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.
Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

I agree. With AMU and TESC, I was told that if I changed the major, it would be under the most current catalog.

Like Prloko, I'm going to strongly suggest you get this in writing. Nothing verbal can be enforced, in other words, if the admissions person was mistaken "oops, so sorry. Next in line please" and you're left refiguring your degree requirements.
I'll also add my two cents, that IF the requirements are under the new catalog and you want to change your degree, do it anyway. It is better to get the degree you want than just letting momentum propel you forward.

Agree. Besides, the changes aren't overly drastic. The only sticky point I can see are for people who downright dread public speaking and don't want to do speech.

Always get items in writing regarding your degree.
I send my whole degree plan with exactly what I am taking and from where to my advisor, and ask for a sign off.
Last thing you want is to create unexpected work.

While this wasn't the information I was looking for, it helps answer the question in this thread:
Quote:Solution: Hello xxxx,
If you decide to switch to the BA Natural Sciences/Mathematics degree you will stay in the 2015 catalog requirements (the same requirements that you are in currently) so there will not be an Oral Communications requirement for your degree.
Take care.
Should you have additional questions, please create a new ticket by sending an email to academicadvising@tesc.edu with your degree program in the subject line. Thank you.

Subject: oral communication requirement
Details (Please be specific): Hello,
I am considering changing major to Natural Science & Mathematics, and I am noticing that in the new requirements there is an oral communication class. I am wondering why my Fundamentals of Speech transfer class is not filling in to that slot.

Sorry for the late reply. I spoke to someone in academic advising about switching degrees. He told me that my new degree would fall under the 2015-2016 catalog because I would be switching schools. This doesn't make sense to me, honestly. I still want a BSBA, just a different concentration, if that's the correct term???
I don't know if he misunderstood the question but I will try with someone else later, I suppose.
Thanks for the helpful replies!

I emailed a help ticket to academic advising. The reply:
Quote: As long as your enrollment is active and your degree stays within the BSBA category, you will be able to remain in the 2015 catalog year.
If you wish to change your degree, please respond to this message.

Subject: BSBA CIS Degree Change
Details (Please be specific):
Hello,
I'm currently enrolled under the per credit tuition plan under the 2014-2015 catalog, degree track BSBA in Computer Information Systems. I'm interested in the BSBA in General Management, but I understand that TESC is currently under a different catalog with new requirements. If I changed my degree from the BSBA Computer Information Systems to the BSBA General Management would I now be under the 2015-2016 catalog?
Thank you,
Xxxxxx
If anything should pop up after I change, would this be okay documentation to show that I was given the green light?
