Calculus - AP & CLEP

Does the AP Calculus BC test count as a different subject/test than the CLEP Calculus? (AP Cal BC is upper level, and CLEP Calculus is lower level. I'm guessing that you couldn't use credits from both AP Cal AB and CLEP Calculus since they are both lower level and have a good bit of overlap, but what about AP Cal BC and CLEP Calculus?)

Also, according to the Collegeboard site,

Thomas Edison State College will grant up to 6 credits for AP examinations for which a scores of 3 or better has been awarded.

Up to 6 is nice, but how do you "make sure" you receive 6 credits (as opposed to 5 - or 2!)?

Says who? There should be no way in #@?! that the AP Calc test is worth upper level credit at a college. I guess maybe TESC might accommodate it if they count 200 level as upper level but truthfully everywhere I've ever looked counts AP Calc as their school's Calc1 equivalent, which would duplicate the Calc CLEP. Honestly, everything below Calc4 "should" be lower level and every school I've ever looked into has Calc2 and below as lower level for sure.

Whoops! My bad. The AP Calculus BC can sometimes get you upper level placement (I misread the site I got my info from - things that seem too good to be true... ).

It's definitely duplicate credit. The AP "AB" test and the CLEP calc both cover what is traditionally Calc1. The "BC" test covers both Calc1 and Calc2, basically. You have to ask them about the awarded credits because in their catalog they have the calc CLEP equivalent to their Calc1 course and they have a 3 next to it for the credit amount. But if you search TESC for their Calc1 course it turns up as a 4 credit course. So TESC has to make up its mind because a lot of schools would honor a score of 4 or 5 on the AP "BC" calc test as credit for both their Calc1 and Calc2 classes which would be 8 credits at TESC, but they say they only award up to 6. If I was just going to guess I'd say that they'd award the full 8 credits for a good score on the "BC" because it is meant to translate directly to specific courses, not just be some sliding scale of awarded generic credit.
