CSM Learn
#1
Hi.  What is CSM Learn's format?  Is there just one exam?  Is it proctored?  Do you need to get every question correct?  Do you get multiple tries?

It's semi-proctored. At some point during the process, they have you install an app to confirm that it is you who is completing the course. From then on, IIRC, it uses biometrics based on data collected during that process.

It's both an exam and not an exam at the same time. If you answer everything perfectly the first time through, it's like a very lengthy exam. If you miss questions, it tells you what you got wrong, why you got wrong, and you will come back to that concept later. As an adaptive exam, I suspect that one could complete it in 3-5 hours if they got nothing wrong. Most students here, however, take 10+ hours to complete. It's not meant to be a walk in the park, though it is easier than most other math-based classes.

You don't have to do it all at once. In fact, it's encouraged that you spread it out over multiple days.

It's not proctored, it's a very interesting AI system as it will look at you progress and if you make mistakes, it'll make you do the quiz/questions again over and over, until you get it properly. It goes in 3 phases, yellow belt, red, then black... once you hit the black belt, you've mastered that area. I would spend at least 40+ hours spread out in a few days, like 10 or so...

It sounds really cool!  Thank you!

I was able to complete it in one go over about 5 hours. I just had it added to my academic evaluation at TESU and for BA CS it came in as an AOS additional elective. I was disappointed it didn't meet the Quantitative Literacy requirement.

Thanks for sharing.  My son is at Excelsior and we think it will come in as Math there.

You need college algebra or a higher math class to go there.

I think that's because, for CS and a couple other tech degrees, you're supposed to have higher level math. I think that the degree thingie lists which degrees can use something like Liberal Arts Math (or CSM) and which ones need at least Algebra.

I completed CSMLearn over a weekend. (I think couple hours Fri night plus probably 4-6 hours each Sat and Sun.) I'm a major math phobe and it was very doable for me. Best structure I've seen to actually teach and reinforce concepts.

It also, as I remember, has units that deal with English grammar and syntax, and uses a lot of word problems based on pretty real-world scenarios.

At TESU, it came in for me (BA-LSSS) as 'Quantitative Skills for Business" In Lib Studies it counts as a math, and I'm told it will fulfil a stats requirement in some circumstances.

The folks behind it are also really helpful and super responsive. I highly recommend it.
