I want to get into grad school in Fall '09 for either an MBA or ms in finance...
I'm currently testing the majority of my courses for my undergrad (finance) at either TESC or Excelsior. (mind is not made up yet)
I want to know if that's a good idea since I wont have a GPA unless I take a few courses online via LSU BYU etc....
Here's my situation....
Im 24 with no prior career experience and I really want to beef up my resume for grad school. Im an international student with intentions on one day moving to Canada(finance is huge up there). I'm waiting for my permanent residency but that may take a while (reason I'm testing heavy right now)...
Is there anything I can do in the mean while? any good Volunteer sites?

This was a huge factor in me deciding to take online classes. I need grades on my final transcripts, not P/F -- or whatever is used for CLEP's, etc.
I honestly think you might have a difficult time if you decide to not take classes and want to apply to graduate school -- especially schools that have a GPA requirement (which most do, generally 3.0/4.0).

take dsst's and excelsior exams there are other ways to get a good gpa.
Find out the minimum requirement for the grad schools you are applying to and plan accordingly

I'm in a similar situation as you. I can't speak for TESC, but for Excelsior, if you're going for letter grades (which is recommended if you're going for grad school) take Excelsior and DANTES exams (the old version) as opposed to CLEPs, which will only be shown as Pass/Fail on your EC transcript. I see you've taken the newer version of the DANTES Intro to Computing exam, judging by the 3 digit score you got, instead of the older 2-digit score. EC's current policy is that they will issue only P/F for the newer versions. If you are near a DANTES test center that offers computerized testing, the current system will let you choose which test to take, so be sure to take the older (nothing that says "rev.2008" or similar) version.
You may have some reqs like me that are not offered either by Excelsior or Dantes exams, but CLEP. For those courses, I'm taking online classes from a regionally accredited local community college so I can receive letter grades which EC will transfer. You may want to look into that as well.
Good luck!

I disagree with using the minimum requirement. Do you really want your application to graduate school represent a minimum... in anything? I know I don't. And depending on your program, and the schools you'll be applying to -- I really suggest taking classes / tests that will provide you with a letter grade, which will influence your GPA.

I was going to take a ECE exam for Juvenile Del, but instead I paid Michigan State University 2200+ dollars for 2 upper level classes I took several years ago, because I had A's in both classes.
I am taking 2 upper level classes online right now with LSU and AMU, and will be completed in Sept.
I cannot afford to take a chance with just the P/F from the cleps and dssts for my major, since I am going to start grad school soon.
IMHO cleps and dantes are good for the 100 & 200 level gen ed Requirements, but for your Major or Core classes they CAN HURT YOU! Ang you will need that GPA also.

I think meeting the minimum for the school you are looking at is excellent advice UNLESS the school is competitive. Let's face it, there are A LOT of grad schools out there- for MBAs alone your looking at over 500 choices. Narrow it down to your budget, area of concentration, location, and accreditation your probably still looking at over 40 choices. It's a buyer's market, you'll have no trouble getting into a grad school with a bachelor's degree (in business) in your hand.
At TESC and EC you can still take a few classes, which will be recorded on your GPA. (or at your local community college and transfer them over).

There are a ton of MBA programs that have open enrollment. dont sweat the gpa thing, excelsior will give you one, even if it is based on one test. I dont know much about tesc but i would assume they would. Right now you have hundreds of choices on MBAs that have open enrollment and it is a buyers market. find the right one for you at the right price and enjoy. relax for now and focus on finishing the BA

I think the advice you have received about planning ahead is the best advice. Obviously you have already started doing this, which is great. I am not graduating with my BS until December 2009, but I am already looking at the MBA programs in my area so that I can plan my undergrad accordingly.
If you are planning to apply to an open-enrollment MBA program, it is likely that you will have prerequisites that are much less strict. If you want to apply to a "selective" institution, it will probably get a little bit trickier. In any case, the odds are in your favor as long as you meet the minimum (or median) standards.
For example, I have my eyes set on The Carlson School of Management for my MBA. This is generally an institution that is ranked in the top 20 in the US, and it is considered to be very selective. It is a $60,000 MBA and that name on your resume (here in the Twin Cities) virtually guarantees you a fabulous job the second you graduate. In 2007, approximately 80% of the people who applied to the PT version of this MBA program were accepted. That is ultra-selective? Less than half of the people who apply to Carlson's undergrad program are accepted.
This is nothing like applying to law schools because when it comes to an MBA, it is a buyer's market baby!
