COSC and FEMA
#11
Thanks Alissa,

The last thread seemed to answer the question. It looks like it simply depends on which program you are in. Some allow 15 "Professional Credits", and some 30. BA in liberal studies allows 30 (29 + 1 for information literacy).

Well, that doesn't really answer the question of whether or not they accept more or less than fifteen. I will send another email, unless I can find ..hmm...nope I can't find the post, that is just the max I remember seeing them take, it could be more or less.

Ah here it is!

And this thread says they will take a max of thirty for LS:http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...+excelsior

So, all in all, it's still a bit confusing! But these threads are why I thought 15 was the max, I would be very pleased to be wrong, but I don't think I've read anyone doing more than fifteen at Excelsior....? Okay, that's it I am sending another email. I will report back, but it I probably won't get a reply until after the holidays. Now I am all curious, I will find out for sure!

I mean wow that's a lot of credits and it's a nice bit of loot but not THAT much,,,like if you're trying to get a degree as soon as possible to get started on your MA... 41 credits just like that....

COSC is the only one that appears to take all 41 credits, BUT I want to point out that the reply I received came from the Public Safety Administration Program, not the school of Liberal Studies. The policy may be different depending on which degree program you are enrolled. Which is apparently what Excelsior does, it looks like they accept fifteen credits for Business degrees, thirty for Liberal Studies, and to finish off my recap I think TESC accepts 25 or 27? Soooo if you are looking to max FEMA out, then check out COSC first, if you don't mind dropping a wad of cash on it.

No problem. I won't go harassing my adviser now. Let me know if I can help any more!

ohhh I see alissa.....

i could see them granting credit for all 41 (after transcribed through FCC or CCC) for the public safety program but not all 41 for other programs.....
that might be a really good option for me since I'm working on my Associates in Criminal Justice.....

hey thanks for all help!

Any new information or updates on this? Considering I've taken 47 of the FEMA courses I would like to know where I stand on the big three. Since I'm more interested in going for my masters this degree just needs to be completed as quickly as possible. I also have Biology, English, and Algebra completed through LSU, 15 hours of Criminal Justice courses completed through North Idaho College, plus all the FEMA hours I wonder where I would stand with the big three. hi soup,
i did email COSC and my email was redirected and the person it was redirected to is supposed to be back in the office today. I asked if ALL fema credits eligible for credit hours would be accepted, as long as they were transcripted through FCC or CCC. I also asked if it made a difference what degree program you're in.

I'm more interested in obtaining a master's also, it would be great if COSC will accept the maximum amount of FEMA credits possible, then I can use my criminal justice courses, PFC courses, and CLEPS to fill in the gaps, and I should have a bachelor's in no time.

I will keep yinzers posted!

Thanks because their response might also allow me to take a similar path as yours. I too have taken 47 FEMA courses, 15 hours of CJ courses and approximately 9-12 hours of general ed from LSU. This would be huge for me and I could possible see completing the rest through CLEP, etc. It's always easier when you know someone who has been through it already and can guide you. Thanks for all the help! Big Grin
