According to the alumni newsletter, COSC has recently added their Bachelor of Science in Cuber Security. COSC has also received approval to begin offering a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology! No timeline is given for when these two new majors will be available.

Cyber Security appeared on the website either right before fall semester or right at the beginning. I considered switching, but when I looked at the requirements, it was going to be easier, faster, and cheaper to stick with the Information Systems concentration. I like that Cyber Security is a Major and not a Concentration. With my experience and certs, I don't think a Concentration will matter much but for someone trying to break into a field like Cyber Security that isn't very friendly to entry level, a major is the better option.
The Business Administration program interests me. I have a number of business classes and I have been considering and AS in Business and the BSBA from TESC. Might wait to see what this new program looks like.

It's odd to me how often people refer to this as potentially being a big deal. I'm coming up on ten years as a COSC grad (B.S. with the Information Systems Studies concentration), and not once has any school or employer treated it differently from a major.

If it weren't for ETS and St. Mary's University cancelling my GRE exam, I would have finished at COSC. I wasn't really bothered by them not having majors.

Every school has their own definition of what a major, concentration, etc. is so this distinction ends up being as meaningless as the BA/BS distinction.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.
Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.
Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.
Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.
Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

It wholly depends on how you list it on your resume. If you list it the same as your signature (BS, Info Sys concentration), it's not a deal breaker. If you put the official degree title BS in General Studies, it will cause some employers pause, especially if you don't have a ton of experience to back you up. Most employers though, merely care that you have a degree and nothing else.

I was confused by this when I first came here too. But, I know that Harvard calls their "majors" concentrations and in principle the concentrations at COSC are as many credits as the majors so....I am confused by how everyone classifies the two in the first place.
Don't miss out on something great just because it might also be difficult.
