The UC Extension courses are not straight-up transfer credits, though. Their "certificates" are not academic certificates, they're professional development/continuing ed/CEUs. You'd have to do a PLA to try for academic credit, or see if they have an articulation agreement with a degree/academic program.

Having said that, I've taken some of the UC-Irvine Extension courses & found them to be well done...and UCI has articulation agreements for certain professional certificates with outside academic degree programs such as U-Wisconsin. It's cheaper for me to do the 5-class certificate @ UCI-Extension and transfer that per their articulation agreement, as 9 credits at U-Wisc.

UC Berkeley Extension does offer college credits. You just have to make sure you don't take the professional development courses.

They're pretty much necessary for the BA, but they are completely unnecessary for the ASNSM.
