COSC Health Information Management Degree Plan - Feedback Needed
#1
Hello,
I've been debating whether to go through COSC or WGU for a Health Information Management degree. I've submitted my transcripts to both and COSC is definitely more liberal with what they will accept. So, I'm leaning toward them. I also like that I can take my time if needed.

Here is my transcript review from COSC.

Here is my attempt at working out how and where to get credits.
COSC_Courses_Needed.xlsx

My initial thoughts are to complete a couple certificates and have them transfer in. Mainly the Certified Professional Medical Auditor from AAPC and the Certified Professional of Healthcare Quality from NAHQ. I'm looking into how much study effort that would take, since I don't directly work in those fields.

Can anyone provide some feedback? Am I better off looking for other alternatives for those courses? Or should I rethink WGU?

Thanks!

The problem (sometimes) with going through one of the Big 3 is that a degree may not be inexpensively tested out of. So, many of the courses you need will cost upwards of $900 to take them at COSC. Even though you got a more "liberal" transfer up front, you'll pay for it on the back end. WGU may be more strict in their requirements, but the $2890 that you pay for a term will pay for many courses that would be expensive otherwise.

Your best bet is to figure out not only how much these certificates would cost to take, but how long they would take to study for. Then, figure out how much the remaining courses would cost.

Do the same with WGU - figure out how much it would cost to take your Gen Ed courses before you enroll there (most will average $100), and then how many terms it would take you to complete the courses you can't find inexpensively.

My bet is, you will end up with a cheaper degree through WGU, even if you go 2 terms. But, you need to do a cost comparison yourself.
