COSC AA or AS? Or BS in Psych?
#1
Hello all!Smile

I am currently applying to a local college (San Antonio College) and if they don't take pretty much all my credits, I'll be doing COSC until I have my degree. I'm not hoping for much but it was free to apply so I thought I could at least give it a shot since it's ridiculously affordable being local and all.

What I wanted to ask about is the COSC AA and AS in General Studies. As far as I can tell, you can only get the Associate's in General Studies (not other subjects/concentrations), am I correct?

Now my ultimate goal is going to be a Bachelor's in Psychology (or possibly business but I'm really not sure at this point. It's heavily leaning to Psych as that's what I've been concentrating on for a while now, though business is important for anything you do in life, so there's that.)

Would I be better off getting an AS as opposed to AA if I want to eventually get the Bachelor's in Psych? My goal is to get the AA because I work 2 jobs and have a young child and have so much going on that I just want it under my belt and then make my decision for the Bachelor's rather than go through the whole thing at once.

Also, is there a degree plan for the AA or AS or BS in Pyschology anywhere? I looked on the wiki but I may have missed it.

My credits are all in my signature (a lot of English because originally when I started school in the 90's I was going to be an English major so I have English up the wazoo.)

I plan to also do 6 - 9 credits or more with CLEP.

Oh, I forgot to ask if you think COSC will accept most or all of my credits as per my signature? They're all from accredited schools.

Thanks for your help!Smile

I would actually encourage you to look at the master's programs or doctoral programs you'll be applying to AFTER the bachelor's degree. I don't think you can work in psychology without a graduate degree, so if your state requires higher education, you'll want to be sure you start there and work backwards hitting all the requirements and prereqs. HTH!

Wow, you gave me a lot to think about. Hmm. I'm now thinking maybe business will really be my best bet. My first calling is writing and I want to write novels for a living (my dream). Psychology has been a strong interest, but thinking about how I will use the degree, I'm not feeling it. Business would be good for almost anything, though. With writing, I'd need a strong background in marketing and other business topics to protect my interests and promote my work.

Thanks for that info, Jennifer.

If you're amenable to business, it would certainly have more utility than psychology BA.
