#1
1. What is your opinion on taking the CLEP for Micro and Macro versus Straighterline?

2. ALEKS vs Straighterline for Statistics?

Thank you!
Thank you ALL for all the WONDERFUL information! Working SMARTER, NOT harder.

I think its if you want a letter grade or just a pass fail.

Plus - with clep, you teach yourself, SL is a concept of teaching it to you. They give you just enough to get thru the course.

I'm thinking of going this route for Micro/Macro if I can get it to count as a Humanities credit or Social Science credit at RU.

Not sure about CLEP vs. Straighterline (SL) for macro/micro - depends whether you prefer working through a lot of material and setting yourself up for a good score and possible letter grade or just blasting out the CLEP.

If you are taking several courses with SL, then it would be cheaper and potentially easier than several CLEPs.

A similar argument applies for ALEKS - I really liked ALEKS' format and it was worth 12 credits. So, work through ALEKS' programmes, maximise the credit for the monthly subscriptions, then look at doing the same for SL for its other courses or the other way around?

If you are completely new to a maths subject, I would have to say that the material and teaching style of ALEKS accurately matches the assessment style, while SL is a little less accurate but has the advantage of animated blackboard/simultaneous voice lectures/etc.

I've never taken a Straighterline class but taking an exam that others have passed using IC and getting 3 credits seems like the ideal path to me.

Take the Macro & Micro CLEPs. Then take DSST Statistics. Make sure you take macro before micro because one leads into the other. Try and take them as close together as possible since the concepts are still fresh in your head.

Just don't take micro 3 days after you took macro (my overconfidence and lack of study prepares me for failure =) )

Thank you all for the advise!

I like the comfort, if worse comes to worse, of only needing 50% to pass the CLEPs, but I like that I wouldn't need any other study materials for Straighterline.

Yes - take the CLEPs. SL is really good and I enjoyed their Macro, but with a total of 19 graded tests, it wasn't fun. Some of the SL classes, like the accountings, only have 6 tests, and are much quicker.

That being said, I REALLY learned my macro.
