CLEP Spanish I/II?
#1
I am taking CLEP Spanish on Wednesday. Is this ONE exam, or two exams? My school told me that they grant 8 credits for Spanish I, and 16 credits for Spanish II... so are they in fact separate exams?

I am starting with Spanish I, and will do Spanish II in another week or two (if they are separate).

Does anyone know? Also, what can I expect on Spanish I?

Spanish Clep is just one test.

According to CLEP:
--------------------------------Score-------Credit Awarded
Spanish Language, Level 1-------- 50--------------6

Spanish Language, Level 2---------63-------------12

Level 1—equivalent to the first two semesters (or 6 semester hours) of college-level foreign language course work
Level 2—equivalent to the first four semesters (or 12 semester hours) of college-level foreign language course work

So, basically, the credit given is based upon your score. GL!
CLEP's Taken
Spanish - 74 (12 credits) hilarious
English Composition W/Essay - 63 (6 Credits) Big Grin
American Government - 51 (3 Credits)
Freshman College Composition with Essays -74? Big Grin

I don't consider myself fluent because I don't think in Spanish, and verb abuse is still prevalent in my speech. I've been studying Spanish on the side for some time, between other CLEPs, DSSTs, B&M Eng Comp (Fall 06), and most recently B&M College Alg (Summer I 07 - 6wks). If anything > 50 will do, then a few days of study should do. If you're looking for > 66, then it will depend on how well you cram. My recommendations are as follows:

1. Study the Schaum's Spanish Outline
2. Goto the grammar links found @ Free Spanish Lessons and Spanish Language Courses and practice.
3. Take the 2nd Peterson's exam (take shorthand notes during the audio.)
4. Review your exam 1 & 2 trouble areas.
5. Repeat 1 & 2 above.
6. Take the 3rd Peterson's exam (take shorthand notes during the audio.)
7. Review any exam 3 trouble areas.
8. Repeat 1 & 2 above.
9. Go take the CLEP (take shorthand notes during the audio.)
10. Please let me know how steps 1 - 9 worked out.

Best of Luck,

I took a language (French) CLEP without the benefit of being able to take Peterson's practice tests beforehand (not available) and used library materials to do what this IC'er did - basically studied regular verbs, some irregular verbs, grammar highlights, and borrowed Pimsleur Language CDs to get in the groove for the audio part. There are a lot of Spanish language resources at all the larger libraries and these days with a library card you can often get access to the language CDs online - you don't have to even set foot in the library!

Have you done a keyword search "Spanish" at the top level of these forums?

I took 5 semesters of spanish in HS. I went up to AP Spanish and got an 85 in the class overall. I took the Spanish clep and passed with a 50 barley. I took the test about a month after i was out of HS therefore it wasn't completely fresh and i had no study time between this. Honestly i thought it was very hard maybe because i tried to translate everything they said instead of picking out key words. Many people have said it was easy but i highly disagree...i loved spanish and i still found the listening sections hard.
