Help ! The university that I attend tells me that they have their own scale to determine a passing grade on the College Mathematics CLEP exam. They tell me I need to score a 2 on a 3 scale to pass. As crazy as this may seem I can not find anyone who can tell me what raw score I need to pass. Has anyone heard of this type of scale ? Could anyone tell me what raw score I need (20-80 scale) in order to achieve a 2 on a 3 scale and pass this exam ? Thank you.

Your university is mistaken, there is no conversion scale. If they've made up their own conversion scale, ask for a copy in writing so you can calculate what you need to score. It's also possible that they've mixed this exam up with something else entirely.... you need a written list.

Yes, OP, you need to ask you university what CLEP score you need for a passing score. They can do whatever they want with their own score, but your results will be what CLEP uses (their own scaled score from 20-80). You have mentioned "raw" score several times, but no one ever sees their raw score, only the scaled score.
Time and time again, testing candidates will ask me at the conclusion of their exam if they passed. I am not sure why so many seem to think the test centers know what each candidate's school requires for a passing score. Maybe it is more that they are not informed about the whole CLEP system. I always take the time to mention to candidates before their test even begins that their school is the one to decide what is a passing score and also how much credit they will receive for a passing score. I remind them that ACE has RECOMMENDED a passing score and units awarded, but those numbers are NOT accepted/granted at all colleges/universities who accept the CLEP exams.
