CLEP College Math vs. CLEP College Algebra
#1
Which one is easier?

I searched the forum and people have different opinions, but seem that since Math is worth 6cr. it would be more complex than Algebra for 3cr.? Is DSST Algebra (or any other test) easier than either of the CLEPs?

I only need 3 credits to satisfy Math+Quantative Requirements in Excelsior.

Thank you!

I've only taken College Math and I will tell you it's a bit broad. It includes alot, but once you got it, you got it. If you know the stuff in the outline, you'll do wonderfully. Unlike other tests where you can know the general outline and still feel lost on the test. But from what I understand College Algebra is only algebra. There's no geometry, pre-cal, etc that could be on the college math. Therefore, it's easier to study for.

I have taken the math clep(and passed, oh! my goodness!) and I am now studying for the Algebra clep. I am finding that the Algebra clep is harder.

I've never taken the Algebra CLEP, but I took the college math one. I am absolutely terrified of math, but I found the math clep easy. The only thing on that test that I didn't learn in high-school was Set Theroy (which I found pretty simple) Maybe I had a tough high school math education... but I really wonder why they call it College Mathematics. For me it was like finding 6 credits laying there on the sidewalk.

BTW I live in NY with state test called "regents" for high school, maybe thats why I found nothing new on the tests?

I have read both exam specific threads and everything else I can find. Here is my question. I have been out of school for 23 years. How doable is college math on limited prep time? IC only?

I was good at math back then but a friend just took the actual class, od college algebra and I wa pretty lost.

Thanks,

Doug

Your question regarding Algebra Dsst vs Algebra Clep is a good one. Anyone have an answer? Seems like this is one of the few apples to apples comparisons between Cleps and DSST's. Like you, I'm preparing to meet the quantative requirement at Excelsior and am not sure which direction to take.
