I have 3 weeks to prepare for the Chemistry CLEP and I'm freaking out a bit to be honest. I have Wiley's self teaching guide which I have started then I plan to go through the REA CLEP book. Are there any suggestions of anything else that is helpful or certain areas to focus on. I'm busy with taking other classes also so i don't have too much time but I have to pass this exam to get into nursing school in the fall. Please help!!!

CLEP Professor - Tutorials on CLEP and AP exams offers courses for math and science. I haven't actually used this yet but am planning to when the time comes.
price: $30-$40, but considering the scary subject at hand, that price doesn't seem too bad.
(and of course: PRACTICE TESTS!)

I read online somewhere that it only has a 5% pass rate which is making me very nervous. Do you know of any formulas we should know? I have no idea how much I need to prepare for this exam but I'm taking it May 7 regardless of if I'm ready or not so if your taking it after that I will let you know how it goes.

Oh my! I had not heard that!

Well. . . I'll be glad to hear how it goes. (and I may end up taking Biology instead since I don't really like Chemistry. We'll see)
good luck!

I used an AP study guide with practice tests from the library to prepare for the Chemistry CLEP. I studied for 1.5 months and scored a 60. I would not be too concerned about the pass rate - pass rates vary - but do be sure to study well.

I passed with a 50!!! I cut it close but I'm just so happy that I passed. The test was pretty hard and a lot of studying is required if you want to pass but it is possible. I went through the whole Wiley's self teaching guide, the REA CLEP chemistry book, and I did the 3 free Peterson's tests and the 2 at the end of the REA book. The practice tests were very helpful and I highly recommend them to anyone who is trying to learn this material. On the test there were some pretty basic questions that I was thankful for, but when it came to the questions that involved equations I got lost. That is one thing I recommend, know the equations dealing with pressure, molarity, volume, temperature, etc well. Properties of the different elements and relationships between different elements across the periodic table was another subject very prevalent on the test. Good luck to anyone trying to pass this test!

Most of the percentages bruited about passing rates pertain to service members (SMs). SMs can take a DSST or CLEP without paying for it. Some forum members use the stats as a guage to compare the difficulty levels of tests. The 2010 passing rate for the computer-based CLEP in chemistry was 8%;biology was 33%. I'm new to the forum, but there seem to be lots of experienced forum members willing to help. Good luck with your studying, testing, and training in the medical field.
