Burnt Out! Please Help me with a TESC Liberal Studies Roadmap!!
#11
publius2k4 Wrote:Yeah this evaluation was completed earlier this year before the capstone was required. What I have the hardest time with is figuring out which tests fit into which area to meet requirements. TESC is less than helpful unless you've already invested your $3000 first. Can you please just tell me which tests I need to take to possibly apply and graduate?

Thanks!

Check out the post I updated with the list of courses you can take. Make sure you don't take anything that could be considered an overlap in either name, subject content, or course code because they will duplicate credit. If you duplicate you won't get six credits instead of three, they'll simply block three from being used. Even though you ran the evaluation already, since you'd be switching majors since you applied you might still have to take the capstone course, you'd have to ask them that question to know for sure.
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.

This is perfect! Thank you so much! This is seriously going to help me finish quickly! Thank you for your help!

The other thing that might help is a list of areas which are included as general education electives. That, along with a bunch of other details on how the process of evaluations work can be found in a guide most people have never seen:

http://www.tesc.edu/documents/Degree_Pla..._12.09.pdf

See page 12 for a list of general education areas, any course in those areas will fit your degree (just watch that you meet UL requirements and other limits mentioned in the evaluation).

So if I read correctly and applied the correct courses in the right spots, should this be a viable path to complete my degree?:

11 Upper Level General Education:
REL-405-DE Introduction to World Religions 400 3
SOS-305-DE Substance Abuse 400 3
HIS-386-DE Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union 45 3
HIS-351-DE A History of the Vietnam War 44 3
(ALL DSST, total of 12 credits)

18 Any Level General Education:
HIS-113-CE History of the United States I: Early Colonization to 1877 50 3 (CLEP)
LIT-111/112-CE American Literature 50 6 (CLEP)
LIT-208/209-CE English Literature (6) 50 6 (CLEP)
COS-101-DE Introduction to Computing 400 3 (DSST)

15 General Education
LIT-291/292-CE Analyzing and Interpreting Literature 50 6 (CLEP)
HIS-114-CE History of the United States II: 1865 to the Present 50 3 (CLEP)
PSY-211-CE Human Growth and Development 50 3 (CLEP)
SOC-101-CE Introductory Sociology 50 3 (CLEP)

Plus the Capstone course.

Yes, that should do it. Make sure you give yourself credit for any other courses which were missing from that old eval and if you feel any of the "other courses" might fit a general education area note that you can get the evaluation changed. Once you get really close go ahead and pay the enrollment fee, schedule an appointment with an advisor, and make sure you know what is left. You don't want to take any extra courses since you already have plenty of those business ones that can't be used. I'd say take a few more tests and then pay the fee, you get a year of enrollment for the money charged and you can get the remaining courses "planned in" so that everything fits and you've got a bulletproof plan (as long as you pass the courses).

Good luck and welcome to TESC.

With so many business credits can you post what their system gives you when you select BSBA General Management? That may be even closer than the liberal studies degree.
BA in Natural Sciences/Mathematics, 2013 - TESC - Arnold Fletcher Award
AAS in Applied Computer Studies, 2013 - TESC
116 B&M Credits
32 FEMA Credits
9 ALEKS Credits - Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Trigonometry
9 Straighterline Credits - Business Communication, Microeconomics, English Composition II
6 TESC Credits - Global Environmental Change

Yeah it seems like the Liberal Studies degree would be a little easier to complete. Thanks, though!

I think I have it figured out now....Plugging in the courses I need into the evaluation is actually quite easy. Once I factor in the courses I've taken since the evaluation, I think my evaluation would look something like this after paying the registration fee and planning what tests I'd like to take (which by my best guess, should only be 10):
