Biology degree online can it be done?
#11
The problem with finding a job teaching psychology or CJ in the K-12 system is that the jobs are few and far between. Schools usually have difficulty finding teachers who are qualified to teach career training courses and other specialized electives, but you might have to move far to get one of those openings. A large high school will need several math teachers, but only one CJ or psychology teacher, if they even offer these courses to begin with.

I think ultimately, you're better off with a Bio degree, even if it takes you longer to get. Now, since I don't know how the Pell Grant works, I can't help there, so this might be less helpful than it could be - so take it for what it's worth. Also, I don't know about other schools, only about TESU, so that's the part I can address.

If you take as much as possible through NMJC, and use any leftover money to take a class at APU, you could take your UL courses there. They are $810 each. Plus Cell Biology.

You could take Genetics & Microbiology through Study.com, then take Chem I w/Lab and Physics I w/Lab through SL. Then, Rio Salado has Gen Chem II w/Lab and Physics II w/Lab.

That leaves Organic Chem I & II w/Labs. Not sure where to take those, probably others here can help.

Normally I might recommend that you do the Comprehensive Plan at TESU for a degree with harder to find classes, but TESU only offers 1 UL bio course, so that's probably not the best use of your money.

Personally if I were considering a Bio degree, I would not want to so OChem.

Study.com Genetics is not UL and Microbiology lost UL this year. So did Pathophysiology. I don't think dfrecore was saying they were UL, but to clarify.

You can take Orgo at UNE and Ocean. I don't know the requirement, but if you only need Orgo 1, that's all you should take lol. Orgo 2/Biochem comes in as lower level -
which is mind-boggling. Save your $ for the upper level sciences.
Every Harvard Extension bio course you take for graduate level can be used as UL Bio credit in TESU's bio degree. Once upon a time, that was my plan. But, you can't use Pell Grant money, and you can't even use student loan money to do it BECAUSE you're not a graduate student *you're an undergrad student* but they let anyone enroll, so it's a work-around that only works if you have cash.

It's worth trying to get the graduate level (aka upper level undergrad) natural science credits from Learner.org These are the only ones of their kind, but low hanging fruit. Total for 9 credits -if you can use them- is only $900. (but again, no financial aid can be used- you pay $300 per course, taken one at a time) Also, I'm only 99% sure that they'll work. I really think they will....but it's worth finding out for sure directly from TESU.

(3 credits) The Habitable Planet (CSU Note: Course # will be NSCI696 not EDUC591C)

(3 credits) Physics for the 21st Century (Note: Course # will be NSCI696 not EDUC591C)

(3 credits) Rediscovering Biology: Molecular to Global Perspectives (Note: Course # will be NSCI696 not EDUC591C)

Wow those are cheap.

Are all graduate credits always UL for TESU undergrad degrees? Just curious!

That's why I said she'd have to take 5 UL courses through APU or another school.

I didn't think about it, but there are some UL bio courses that aren't crazy expensive: Pathophysiology via UExcel or Coopersmith ($150) and Microbiology through Saylor or SL (plus SL lab if you want an extra 1cr).  So then you'd only need 3UL APU courses, and Cell Bio (either through APU or elsewhere).  See, I just saved her $1600!!  Smile

OChem can be taken at CCs, but then TESU won't count it as UL.

Coursera: Stanford Machine Learning (2019)
TESU: BA in Comp Sci (2016)
TECEP:Env Ethics (2015); TESU PLA:Software Eng, Computer Arch, C++, Advanced C++, Data Struct (2015); TESU Courses:Capstone, Database Mngmnt Sys, Op Sys, Artificial Intel, Discrete Math, Intro to Portfolio Dev, Intro PLA (2014-16); DSST:Anthro, Pers Fin, Astronomy (2014); CLEP:Intro to Soc (2014); Saylor.org:Intro to Computers (2014); CC: 69 units (1980-88)

I asked TESU that question a while back- maybe 2 years or so ago, and was told yes. As with anything, that can change, so it's worth getting an updated confirmation, but I would proceed as if that is another way to earn UL credit.

Wow!!!!! Thank you guys so much!! I’m about to look into to that and call TESU. I will update! I haven’t enrolled yet, last time I called they told me I had to enroll first before they could answer any questions grrr. The good thing about the pell grant is I will receive all the excess money back, it usually equates to about $900 so I could definitely swing those classes! I was going to take organic chemistry at nmjc although I really hate it! But ya gotta do what ya gotta do! Thanks again! This forum is so extremely helpful.
