You need to read ~15 short texts and answer 1 multiple choice question for every text. The exam is adaptive, is instantly graded, and ACE badge is issued automatically.
I'm intrigued by the ACFTL exam. How do they know what is your native language? Couldn't people just sign up for whatever language they choose? It seems like that is too easy and maybe not every college would accept ACFTL for college credit.
How's your Klingon? It "IS" just that simple! ACTFL is ACE recommended for credit, over 2000+ colleges/universities in the US alone accept these for credit. They may not be as popular as CLEP or AP/IB as about 2900+ colleges/universities will accept those, but they are more popular than NCCRS which only has about 1500 institutions accepting them...
Further to that, they're not testing your "native" language, they're just testing your language ability in any language you want to be tested in that is offered. So if Klingon is one of them and you're learning Klingon for fun and on your own time, you might just want to get "credit" for what you've learned, that is what ACE/NCCRS and other alternative credit is all about.
The icing on the cake is that some schools that allow alternative credits to be transferred into their degrees, they'll most likely take up to 75% transfer for CLEP/ACE, etc... therefore allowing someone to only take the required 25% from the school, this saves them energy, money, and time in getting an Associates, Bachelors, and/or Certificates.
