Biology IC cards
#1
Hi everyone! I started studying for Bio a while ago using REA and IC... so I was wondering how many times I need to go through it...there are so many questions and I feel like every time I finish 1 section, I forget the section before Sad Should I go through each section until I know it and then continue the next part and not go back and review the one beforehand? Also, should I first read a chapter of REA and then do the IC cards or first read the whole REA then IC?? I'm so scared for this CLEP and I really need to pass so I can graduate this summer...

Maybe Straighterline is an option to get the biology credits out of the way? It's cheap, unproctored, and all of the tests are open-book. I'm currently enrolled in their biology course. It consists of 15 exams, a mid-term, and a final. If you take one exam per day, you could be done with the course in a little more than two weeks. This is just some food for thought.

I wouldn't recommend using IC for a subject as large as biology, but that's just me.

What is straighterline? I'm enrolled at Adelphi University and they don't allow me to get credits from another college... I just asked my dean if LIU will accept it. Would I be able to register now or do I have to do it in the beginning of a semester?

You can register at any time. TESC and others accept ACE approved courses. If your school accepts ACE approved courses then you are ok. Most schools allow you to transfer credits. Its a normal thing for them. And they usually don't care if you for example, go take a community college class back home over the summer as a non-degree seeking student and transfer it in.
You just need to get authorization from the registrar's office that it will be accepted and from your advisor that it applies to your degree.

Online College Courses - Distance Learning Courses - StraighterLine is 100 a month and 39 per course, the tests are all open book and its a great way to get credit if your school takes it.

Do you know if military tuition assistance or the GI bill pays for those?

And it doesn't say what level courses these are... are the all 100 and 200 level courses... or are some 300 and 400 level? Don't really need any more lower levels...

My college only accepts 12 CLEP credits. I only get 3 out of the 6 credits for biology Sad I want to first try passing the CLEP because I'm in college full time from 9:30 to 8 at night every day so it'll be hard taking all the exams for Straighterline...can anyone answer my original question Wink

Prettyprincess,

I studied for biology for two and a half weeks using only the IC flashcards and then took two peterson practice tests two days before the actual CLEP and I scored a 50-a passing grade. If you're a fast reader you should be able to take the test and pass it. What got me the low score was that I had a lot of distractions during my test and I had to keep rereading the questions, so I ran out of time at the end and wasn't able to answer all of the graph questions, since there are large reading sections attributed to each.

You will need to study the Krebb Cycle and Glycolysis (sp?). Try Kahn Academy videos on youtube for that. They explain that process really well.

Study hard and you'll do fine!

Thanks...I am not a fast reader. In fact, I am a very SLOW reader and I get distracted from studying very easily. I have the entire weekend off to study but I keep pushing it off...I can't study for too long. I read your posts about bio on a different thread. Thanks I found the link for the Khan Academy also... and I just ordered the AP cliff notes for Bio. I'm really nervous because I never actually passed a CLEP by a lot of points... I failed American History II and I passed Sociology with a 51. Sociology is considered to be an easy exam, but I didn't think so...Bio is considered HARD so I'm worried...

You're trying to study for 10 hours a day. No wonder you get distracted from studying easily.

Doing 30 minutes of studying and then taking an hour break so you can focus for the next 30 minutes of studying will accomplish more than staring at your notes 10 hours a day.
