I'm an RN trying to get a degree in elementary education. I have had microbiology, anatomy, physiology, organic chemistry, and inorganic chemistry. The education department won't substitute any of those for introductory biology and physical science (that CLEP comes in July for me though). Supposed to be taking Biology CLEP on Friday. I am just so stressed out and overestimated how much I thought I knew; now that I am studying, I feel so lost. I have the REA Biology book, the CLEP 2010 book, and I'm using InstantCert. I am thinking of trying to push back my exam another week, but I so want it over with. I just took a test by Peterson and got 67 out of 115 correct, for a 58%. Better than some of the other tests I've taken, but still, iffy. Anyone delayed their test and did better, is it a bad idea? Not sure. Have went through the specific exam feedback as well. Plan on studying at least 3-4 hours a day through Thursday; would study more, but have summer school.

How often are the CLEP exams changed? Just wondering if I should try to study what is offered here... probably will anyway. Supposed to take the exam on Friday, but thinking about pushing it back a week. Not sure how much time I am going to have to study since I start summer semester tomorrow. I have had microbiology, anatomy, physiology, and two chemistry classes... but they were all about four years ago. Biology is so, so broad though. Much broader than I could have ever imagined! Haven't studied much, but am really hitting it now; kind of freaking out. Thank you to everyone for sharing the information! I have used Peterson's and got 67 correct for a score of 58 on the first exam; waiting 'til I have studied more to take the second. Have the REA book, have InstantCert, should get the Standard Deviants DVD in a few days from Netflix. Not sure if I am going to be able to cram it all in!

Sounds like you're doing a good job so far. You're varying your source materials- the combination of SD videos, flashcards, Peterson's practice exams, and the REA book sound great. I used a book called Biology Smart by Debbie Guest that I really liked (instead of REA). It's a short read w/ chapter quizzes that help you retain and recall the material. I'm not sure how often the CLEPs are updated. Be sure to check the "Specific Feedback" section and read though those posts- if there are any major changes to the exam, it's likely someone who took it recently will let us know. IMO, when you are consistently getting 60 - 65% or above on the Peterson's practice exams, you're ready to pass the exam. Keep up the good work!

If I recall correctly, the notes for Biology were taken from the Peterson's practice tests. Several months ago, I tried to find them again but was not able to when I searched either.

I think I know what you are talking about but I don't know how to find it.
I just took the Bio CLEP this morning and scored a 70. I studied for 2 weeks with REA, CliffsQuickReview, and Standard Deviants DVD. It was not nearly as bad as I expected. You need to know a little about a lot.

American Government 60
Human Growth & Development 62
Psychology 66
Sociology 67
English Composition w/Essay 77
Spanish 77

Thanks, passed w/ a 67. Think Peterson's tests are a very good indicator of the score you'll actually get on the CLEP.
I was not able to find the biology study guide on here; although I did go through the specific forum on biology (have to be a member) and there were about 8 pages of posts that I went through. I would recommend that. The exam I took was very different from what a lot of people mentioned, but some of the feedback did help me w/ a few questions.
