Big 3 people who went on to graduate school....
#1
What did you decide to major in for your Masters and which Big 3 college did you graduate from with your Bachelors degree and what was your major for your Bachelors degree? Did you find that you had any issues getting into a Masters program and where are you at career-wise now? Just curious! :patriot:

Well I don't have my BSBA CIS yet but I'm all done with the testing and transferring of my existing B&M credits so I decided to sign up for the MBA program at Northcentral University | Online Degree Programs | Online Learning.
I don't have a degree yet so I had to sign up for non-degree seeking which costs a bit more but it is the same classes.

I just finished the Business Ethics course MGT5019 with a 98% tonight!
I have been there for 23 days since its at your own pace and my pace is 105mph.

I am now in the beginning stages of my second course. I love their at your own pace, no group assignments format and they have no entrance requirements except a bachelors degree.
BSBA CIS from TESC, BA Natural Science/Math from TESC
MBA Applied Computer Science from NCU
Enrolled at NCU in the PhD Applied Computer Science

I'll share my stats. I graduated with a BA in Social Science from TESC in 2008- that's the only degree I used in my applications. I have 225 undergraduate credits and a GPA of 3.78 but did not forward all of my credits when I applied, only my TESC transcript. On my TESC transcript, it breaks dow basically 1/3 credit for prior learning (free elective) 1/3 test-out and 1/3 online classes.

I've applied and been accepted unconditionally into each of these grad programs as well as an accelerated (second bachelor) BSN:

Western New Mexico University, MA (Dual) Psychology and English
University of Adelaide, MA Gastronomy
Open University of Catalonia, MA Food Studies *this is an open university
University of Illinois, MA Recreation and Tourism
Harvard University (Extension), Master of Liberal Arts: Psychology
Northcentral University, Master of Education
Andrew Jackson University, MBA Health care Administration
University of Cincinnati, MSN Midwifery
Vanderbilt University, MSN (Dual) Midwifery/ Family Nurse Practitioner
Trinity College Nursing, BSN

(...I think I'm missing one...)

I didn't apply to med school, but really (REALLY) considered it strongly. I do believe that it can be done- even with an online degree. This was an obsession of mine for about a year- you an PM me if you want to chat about med school stuff.

You asked about careers, but I'm not a good example of that because I'm not using my degrees/credits for a career- I'm more of an edujunkie. I'm very interested in a lot of things, and I like to take classes. There has never been a semester since I've been 17 that I haven't been enrolled as a student or scheduled as a teacher at a college. (I'm 40) My next project involves opening a culinary college, so I guess I'm not leaving education any time soon.

I've not taken classes at all of those schools, but I have the acceptance letters saved lol. Right now I have active transcripts at the University of Catalonia and Harvard. I intend to complete degrees with both schools. I was scheduled to start a MEd class at Northcentral next month but I've decided to pass and take an AIDS class at Haaavaaard instead. Smile

I guess my point is, the list of colleges I couldn't get into is probably long, but who cares, because the list of colleges I CAN get into is long too. I guess it depends on where you want to go. That's probably the only acceptance you need to worry about.

Lastly, the education market is always a BUYER'S market.

EDIT: Ashford on campus MBA, that's the one I forgot- and they gave me a fat scholarship too! LOL

WOW Jen! That's awesome. How were you able to get into MSN programs without an actual nursing license? I have my LPN license and I am highly considering completing a Bachelor of Arts in Natural Sciences and Mathematics. I'm also wondering if I can double major with that degree and Spanish..and then later apply to MSN school as well. It's ok if I cannot, but I just had no idea that was a possiblity!

Those programs, as well as about a dozen more, are second degree programs. They specifically are for people without an RN.

Wow! And so the end result is a nursing license if I am correct? Are they NP programs or more Nurse Informatics and Nurse Educator type of deals? Awesome.

PS. If you chose to go with Vanderbilt University for their NP program, is it online or would you actually need to move to Nashville?

You do your RN in an accelerated format- generally 12 monthsish and then enter your grad work which is generally 2 yearsish. (longer at Vanderbilt because they have dual options for 2 specialties) NP programs are all I looked at, but I'm sure there are others.

Allnurses forum is a great place for more info.

Just as an FYI. The University of Toledo (where I am currently attending) has a MSN program known as the Graduate Entry Clinical Nurse Leader Program. It allows those with a bachelors (in anything!) to enroll. At the end of 2 years, full time, the graduate has an MSN, is eligible to take the NCLEX to become an RN, and get certified as a clinical nurse leader. Additionally there are graduate certificates which qualify one to become an NP.

It's a program I'm considering once I get my degree.
