Best school names to have on your resume
#1
What schools do you think make the top 25 or so? I know it depends on your field, but I'm curious what would be the "general" best.

Some obvious ones I guess are: Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Cambridge, Oxford, UC Berkeley, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, CalTech, U Chicago, UCLA, U Michigan, UPenn, Cornell, Johns Hopkins. What have I forgotten?

Ivy League is always better if you want to teach at an Ivy League school or be published in academic circles. But it is lots of $$$$ and overkill for most people.

Local universities, no matter where you live. It's what everyone knows, and they'll know it's legit. You'll probably also get plenty of networking out of the deal as well. "Oh, you went to XYZ, I/my best friend/my husband/my mom went there too!" It's an immediate bonding with the person interviewing you.
