Best options for someone with a bunch of art credits and no degree?
#1
My lovely wife has close to 3/4 of a fine arts degree.

Lately she has been watching me pick my way through the process of transforming myself from an uneducated moron to... an educated moron? At any rate... it seems to have attracted her attention, and now she's wondering if there's any hope for herself.

It's been a while so she's trying to track down her transcripts to see exactly what she has, but it should be around 120 hours. To break it down a little further, she has 48 credits of gen ed (should be 12 history, 12 math, 12 science and 12 English) she earned from a community college while in high school and the balance of her credits are from a fancy fine arts school.

So, which way should I point her?

For an Associates degree, see the threads on the BOG AAS degrees. She would probably be very close, and those are cheap. At least one of the schools would probably let her get a concentration in Fine Arts.

If she wants a Bachelor's, she could still start with the BOG AAS. The BALS from TESU is one of the best. Sanantone's BA in Liberal Studies | Degree Forum Wiki | Fandom powered by Wikia

It just depends on what her transcripts look like. Once she has them all, have her post on here the info:

School, and whether it's a semester or quarter based system
course #, course name, # of credits, grade if less than a C

Repeat for each school.

I cam over with almost a full AA worth of credits in graphic design - I chose Gen Mgmt - cant vouch that with the recent TESU changes that this would still be the most viable.

There's two main degrees people would choose, BALS or the BSBA.
Get her credits posted here and we can see what is better for her.
If you have a spreadsheet already created, post that here as well.

In fact, there's two in the "about me" section of my profile.
I copied it from dfrecore, you can use it as a reference/tracking tool.
I use it to work on courses and "cross" them out when I am done!

I agree with digging out the transcripts and posting the specifics. It's also going to depend on what she wants. Does she want the fastest degree in anything based on the credits she has, does she want to finish the degree in fine arts or a related field, does she want to get a degree in something totally different? These are helpful things to know.

She has received what we believe to be "most" of her transcripts* and I plan to get them transcribed later today, but it looks like she is closer to 90 credits.

She wants the fastest and most effective route to get a degree. She was so close the first go round that I don't think she'll be interested in scrapping most everything and starting over. With that said, after scanning what she has it appears that the liberal studies from TESU will probably be the most time/cost effective route, even if we do have to pay for the capstone and cornerstone. As a bonus, we could graduate together (again). Big Grin

*At this point we're no longer positive how many credits she earned while in HS. We believe some may be missing, and we aren't quite so sure that she earned as many as she first thought. She needs to do some additional research, but given the fact it's been more than a decade ago, who knows how that will turn out. We went to the same HS, but I was a slacker and didn't take any dual enrollment courses so I'm not of much help remembering exactly what was available. Fortunately, we have one friend that did and we're hoping that if everyone puts their heads together, we will at least know what we're looking for.

Wouldn't the college she took the courses at have those on the transcript?

She could get her BA in Art at TESU or Charter Oaks. She will need upper level to accomplish it. She could also look into a BA in Humanities at TESU. All those art credits will count in that degree. I have a BA in Humanities and I did it that way so I could use all my Art and Design credits.

AAS Construction and Facilities Support - TESC

One would think... To complicate matters, she never stepped foot in a community college. Our high school had a "dual enrollment" program with two community colleges; coursework was completed as part of her high school classes.

She has transcripts from both colleges, and she is 90% sure that she is missing credits for Chemistry and Government. Most likely, our guidance office failed to transmit the information, or something was lost.

See spreadsheet for what has been confirmed. High probability there will be 6-8 Chemistry credits and 6 American Government credits added in the near future.
