Bachelors in Business Administration (or related) Second Degree
#1
Hi All,

I have a BA in Broadcast News Journalism from a RA California State University. I am looking to complete a second bachelors in business. Which school would I be able to transfer the most amount of credit and utilize StraighterLine and other non tradition mediums such as ACE to complete it. Time is a major factor and so is money. TESC and Excelsior were quoting me like $10k for 20-25 units. That was almost the complete cost of my BA.

Interested in any RA school that is willing to transfer 90-100 of my units and would accept non-traditional courses like the Big 3. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jacob

Here's the skinny on a second bachelor's at TESU:

The Secret to Earning a Second Degree | Thomas Edison State University

A second bachelor's at TESU requires 24 new credits. The amount they quoted you is for taking those units at TESU as online courses. You should be able to do it with alternative credit for $3-4K.
NanoDegree: Intro to Self-Driving Cars (2019)
Coursera: Stanford Machine Learning (2019)
TESU: BA in Comp Sci (2016)
TECEP:Env Ethics (2015); TESU PLA:Software Eng, Computer Arch, C++, Advanced C++, Data Struct (2015); TESU Courses:Capstone, Database Mngmnt Sys, Op Sys, Artificial Intel, Discrete Math, Intro to Portfolio Dev, Intro PLA (2014-16); DSST:Anthro, Pers Fin, Astronomy (2014); CLEP:Intro to Soc (2014); Saylor.org:Intro to Computers (2014); CC: 69 units (1980-88)

I"m going to recommend 3 different options that might work for you:

1) TESU's BSBA

TESU will waive your GE requirements if you already have a BA/BS. That leaves 36cr of core requirements, 18cr of the Area of Study, and College Algebra and Stats. If you have any of these courses already, then you won't have to take them.

So, assuming you don't have any of these required courses, that leaves 60cr, meaning 20 courses @ $100/course = approx $2000 for coursework, and then another $2000 for the residency waiver, $75 app fee, and $323 graduation fee. $4400 or so.

You can easily do it for less than this, if you take some less expensive options (Saylor, ALEKS math before 1/31, take more than 2 courses in a month at SL or Study.com, etc.).

And if you already have any of the core courses, then you need even fewer.

Oh yeah, and not a single course needs to be taken at TESU. You can even test out of the capstone. It's one of the cheapest ways to a degree there is.

2) WGU BSBM

For less than $3000 for a 6-month term, you can complete your BSBA at WGU. The key is to make sure that you can finish in that term. So, you will want to take some courses outside of them prior to enrolling, because they won't accept transfer credits after enrolling (this is key - take those courses after applying, but before enrolling). There's a fine line that you need to work out here - because you don't want to spend extra money if you don't have to. So the key to planning all of this out is determining how many courses you can compete during the term easily, so that you don't go over the 1 term - but you don't want to leave so few that you've wasted time and money when you could have taken courses during the term.

3) WGU's MBA.

They do not require a BSBA or even core courses as prerequisites, which is nice. But they do require 3 years of business experience, which may or may not be doable for you.

If you do have the experience, then you can get their MBA in the same way as the BSBM, for less than $3000 per 6-month term.

If you post the credits you already have, I can give you a degree plan including cost for TESU, and possibly even WGU.
