Bachelor degree in Computer science
#1
Hello!

International student

Age:23
What kind of degree do you want?:bachelor of CS
Budget: I have a max of $5K saved up.  I'd like to go the cheapest route possible, but will consider spending more for easy and fast.
Commitments: no commitments, able to study full day
Dedicated time to study: I can study as much as is needed
Timeline: Finishing the courses required for the degree as fast as possible would be ideal.  I would like to finish within 1-1.5 years (12-18 months)
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: none

Backstory: I have a bachelor degree in economics, my grades dont allow me to pursue masters in typical universities, i applied to University of the people for their masters in information technology and i got accepted. i havent started my term yet ( this 16th nov it will start). and i found this TESU program, i like it so far, their BA CS seems like a good shout, but im worried about the full tuition, i asked the advisor and she said 17k, while i did the maths myself, it says 120 credits required, 572 dollars per credit, which is 80k, so i dont understand why she said 17k.

my priority is University of the people masters program, im just looking into this tseu to see if it suits me. if i take sophia courses, how cheap could i get their degree from them?

@fiyajou3... Welcome to the board, you've got a very good introduction post with 'some' details that we look for, having said that, you're missing the bulk of the addendum/template. Edit the post or create a reply with the info on the template and addendum, as both have requests of info regarding your budget, commitment, study habits, etc. It paints a bigger overview and picture of your scenario, with more info, we can help you much better as we can get a overall idea of your situation... https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...Area-works

University of the People has a Computer Science bachelor's that is U.S. NA accredited if that works for your situation.

You can transfer up to 90 credits from Sophia and Study.com, and it's similar to SNHU to the workload and how long it takes to finish. (A bit over 10 months)

UOP Costs
$60 enrollment fee
$510 ($17 per transfer course X 30)
$1200 ($120 course assessment fee X10)
$1770 Total (+ Sophia and Study.com cost)

Otherwise, TESU would cost around $6000  (+ Sophia and Study.com cost)
Degrees: BA Computer Science, BS Business Administration with a concentration in CIS, AS Natural Science & Math, TESU. 4.0 GPA 2022.
Course Experience:  CLEP, Instantcert, Sophia.org, Study.com, Straighterline.com, Onlinedegree.org, Saylor.org, Csmlearn.com, and TEL Learning.
Certifications: W3Schools PHP, Google IT Support, Google Digital Marketing, Google Project Management

can you please break down how would TESU cost me 6k and what courses can i take in sophia and study.com to make that happen?

also ive heard that UOP will get their regional accredition visit next year's fall

It's always a bit tricky to be sure with international degrees, but assuming your existing bachelor's is evaluated to be equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor's, you should have most of the credits you need from that.

For TESU, you'd be looking at 2-3 months subscription from Study.com and maybe Sophia to fill in the CS Area of Study and whatever else your current degree didn't fulfill. Then either one of:

$ 50 Application Fee
$1635 TESU Capstone.
$ 500 EdX TESU Cornerstone
$3354 Residency Waiver Fee
$ 298 Graduation Fee
=====
$5837

-- OR --

$ 50 Application Fee
$4429 Full Time Flat Rate Tuition for a 15cr term including cornerstone and capstone
$ 298 Graduation Fee
=====
$4777
NanoDegree: Intro to Self-Driving Cars (2019)
Coursera: Stanford Machine Learning (2019)
TESU: BA in Comp Sci (2016)
TECEP:Env Ethics (2015); TESU PLA:Software Eng, Computer Arch, C++, Advanced C++, Data Struct (2015); TESU Courses:Capstone, Database Mngmnt Sys, Op Sys, Artificial Intel, Discrete Math, Intro to Portfolio Dev, Intro PLA (2014-16); DSST:Anthro, Pers Fin, Astronomy (2014); CLEP:Intro to Soc (2014); Saylor.org:Intro to Computers (2014); CC: 69 units (1980-88)

this sounds way too good to be true, in the first choice, i take that i only have to study capstone and cornerstone at TESU, the rest is in sophia and study.come?

and the second choice is implying ill only have to study 15cr + cornerstone and capstone? im not trying to sound like a jerk, but does this mean you assume that its possible to fullfill almost all of the credits required to get the degree from sophia + study? is it possible? did you do it yourself? im sorry if it seems like im doubtful, its just a big investment of time and money and im already not on good terms with my family for that

Actually the 15cr includes the cornerstone and capstone, you only need 3 other courses for that path.

Yes, It is possible to start from scratch, get all of your credits from other schools and alt credit like Sophia and SDC, take the cornerstone through EdX and just the last 3 credits in the form of the capstone from TESU and graduate with a BACS.

Many people here have done this. I had to take more courses from TESU because back in the stone age when I did it, none of the CS courses were available as alt credit. Now they are all available online, self-paced and at low cost.

Here's a sample degree plan for someone starting completely from scratch, which you would not have to do. You would mainly need courses in the Area of Study (we won't know exactly what you need until your transcripts are evaluated then processed by TESU). If you put your mind and effort into it, you could have your degree in time for September graduation, I'd think.

P.S. Do a lot of reading here. You will find people asking the same questions you are, and success stories of people who have followed through.

@fiyajou3... as davewill mentioned, that is the cost, depending on how you want to slice things. Those are the two options I would recommend as well. If you've got experience or knowledge in Comp Sci, I would do the 15 credits, if you don't have much experience, then I would recommend getting some certs/experience to go along with the degree. You need to spend some time reviewing the WIKI links and also the searching for previous posts, it's been mentioned a few times already.
