#1
Hey!

Would someone be so kind and post their degree plan for getting their Bachelor in Business Marketing at Thomas Edison? I am interested in doing as many CLEPS, DSST and TESC and possible. Trying to get it done spending the least amount of money.. Any advice?

Thanks!!!

I haven't seen any degree plans specifically for BSBM, but from looking at the requirements on TESC's website for this degree it shouldn't be hard to piece one together. Most of the requirements practically mirror the BSBA so you could follow one of the plans found at DF Wiki or elsewhere here at IC for those. The TESC link I gave above shows that 15 elective credits are needed in the Area of Study, which can all be satisfied through TECEP exams. I would imagine that you could take courses at TESC, through KCTCS, or other sources if the TECEPs are too intense for you. In fact, I know that KCTCS has a Small Business Management course that upon completion would get you 3 credits towards this. Finally, with regards to the "Marketing Research" course requirement, if you cannot find an equivalent elsewhere you could take this 1 class at TESC and have the grade you receive from it count as your overall GPA.

This is my first post, so I'm not expert. I am in the same boat, and that's why I am replying. I would like to get a BSBA in Marketing from TESC.

So, I looked over Levi's BSBA in General Management here. I have modified below to meet the Marketing Electives (Section II, B), which is the only thing that is different than the General Management degree.

I. General Education Requirements - 60 credits
A. English Composition - 6 credits
English Composition w/ Essay - CLEP [the new CLEP is called College Composition] (6)

B. Humanities - 12 credits
Managerial Business Communications - TESC guided study course (3)
Analyzing & Interpreting Literature - CLEP (6)
Humanities - CLEP (3) [partial credit]

C. Social Sciences - 12 credits
Macroeconomics - CLEP (3)
Microeconomics - CLEP (3)
Introductory Sociology - CLEP (3)
Western Europe since 1945 - DSST (3)

D. Natural Sciences & Mathematics - 9 credits
Precalculus - CLEP (3)
Principles of Statistics - DSST (3)
Natural Sciences - CLEP (3) [partial credit]

E. General Education Electives - 21 credits
Intro to Law Enforcement - DSST (3)
College Mathematics - CLEP (6)
Humanities - CLEP (3) [partial credit]
Natural Sciences - CLEP (3) [partial credit]
Social Sciences & History - CLEP (6)

II. Professional Business Requirements - 54 credits

A. Business Core - 27 credits
Financial Accounting - CLEP (3)
Managerial Accounting - Straighterline Accounting II (3)
Introductory Business Law - CLEP (3)
Intro to Computing - DSST (3)
Principles of Finance - DSST (3)
Principles of Management - CLEP (3)
Principles of Marketing - CLEP (3)
Business Ethics in Society - DSST (3)
Business Policy - TECEP (3)

B. Area of Study: Marketing - 18 credits
Marketing Research - Unknown Exam Equivalent (3)
Marketing Management Strategy - TECEP (3)
Marketing Communications - TECEP (3)
Advertising - TECEP (3)
Sales Management - TECEP (3)
Public Relations: Thought and Practice - TECEP (3)

C. Business Electives - 9 credits
Business Mathematics - DSST (3)
Principles of Supervision - DSST (3)
Intro to Business - DSST (3)

III. Free Electives - 6 credits
Personal Finance - DSST (3)
College Algebra - CLEP (3)

As you can see, I do not yet know an exam equivalent for Marketing Research, which is a required course for TESC's Marketing emphasis. You and I both may need need to just take this course through TESC, which means only one actual class will need to be taken, while the rest of the credits can be accomplished through exams. I'm in a different boat. I have been in community college for a couple semesters and have probably received 25 or so credits. When this semester ends, I plan on sending my transcripts to TESC to see how many credits they will accept before I create a study plan.

My pleasure, that's what IC is all about. Smile

It looks like DigitalSam has put together a workable degree plan for this major that you can use. For the Marketing Research course I'd find out from TESC what the specifics of it are and look around for an equivalent if you prefer to just test out.

DigitalSam! Sorry I didnt see your degree plan till now. Thank you so much for posting it here! Just made my life a little easier. Good luck on your journey!! I just started about 2 months ago. My plan is to just start with all the CLEPs and DSSTs and then find out from TESC what I need to take from them when I have a few credits already. I believe that you have to pay a yearly fee just to be enrolled at TESC, so I plan on applying next year Smile Yeah, so excited about finally getting my degree!

I'm also pursuing a Marketing degree. I started in college, but due to some traveling and changing schools I realized that getting my degree the traditional way would cost me thousands more and take forever.

My advice would be if you want to fill out the Marketing electives, look to your local community college. Many of their lower level Marketing courses will probably transfer over to TESC for upper level credit (of course ask an advisor first) at very cheap cost. Depending on the school there will probably be some online courses so you want even have to take time off from work. If you're eligible for financial aid in the form of a grant, chances are it will cover your tuition + books and leave you with some free money left over to pay for part of the TESC enrollment fee at a later point.

The only real challenge will be finding credit for the Market Research requirement. I wish they had a TECEP for that course, because I'm really not interested in paying 636 + proctoring costs to take the actual course. I think Penn Foster has a Market Research course at much cheaper cost. Not sure if it's ACE accredited but that may be something to look into.

If you find anything out please let us know. Thanks.

Check with your local CC but if you take classes thru a CC give Clovis CC a try. It's VERY cheap even for non-NM residents.
