Big 3 and my Courses Completed
#1
Thank You for opening my Thread. I have been considering changing from my current college that is regionally accredited to one of the Big 3. My preferred Degree is the BA in Business with Finance at Excelsior. I want to do the dual degree for the MBA. My understanding is the MBA is regionally accredited and has a business accreditation that is not one of the major agencies. The Unit prices at Excelsior make me nervous away from testing or using Straighterline Courses. The quick completion time and ease of access to a Masters degree is what made me look at Excelsior above CQ and TE. How would a community college course compare to a Straighterline course? Also is completing a Clep with studying less time intensive compared to Straighterline or Penn Foster? Also may I use a FASA with Penn Foster?

Below are the courses I have taken at Community College and below other at another regionally Accredited Institution. What school would you recommend and how long do you see me completing my courses with a fairly open schedule?

If you mean to do the EC MBA I would tell you there are probably hundreds of choices for an online MBA out there that trump the EC offering. I simply wouldn't do a graduate degree at TESC or EC right now, the cost to benefit is way to high. If an MBA is likely in your future just keep an eye on the business pre reqs that might be required of whatever school you choose...these can be incorporated into many degree plans, a business degree being one...but not the only one by any means.

A CC course (provided it's in a more or less common subject) from a regionally accredited college will have broad acceptance at many schools especially at any of the Big 3. Straighterline acceptance is growing, and SL if fine at any of the Big 3, but you should check any other school closely for acceptance. I think EC is limiting the number of credits that can come from SL in some programs also.

I would do a better comparison of which of the Big 3 will get you done quickest and re-think my Grad School plans.

Are the courses above from a CC? Rather than see you enroll in PF to use say a PELL grant I would suggest your local CC or a cheap online CC like New Mexico Junior College or Clovis in New Mexico. (I don't even know if PF takes PELL)

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Yes all of the above courses are from a Community College besides the last 4 written. You mention better MBA options but what is close to the acceleration of that is offered with the dual degree? I know degree reviews can take weeks and wanted to see what would fit best with my classes completed. Seeing these courses what do you reccomend big 3 wise and comparable MBA

I finally landed here http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...eview.html

That said there are a lot of places I would look before choosing EC for an MBA.

Your local State School MBA
Eastern New Mexico Part time
Chadron State in Nebraska
AMU/APU
University of Wyoming
any of the distance State School options

I think EC is a solid choice for your undergrad...it's really overpriced for the MBA. Unless I don't know of some big discount or something I believe the cost, lack of advanced accreditation, and relatively unknown status of EC points to other options.

I would concentrate on finishing your undergrad (be sure to include the pre-reqs an MBA program migth require) then go after an MBA somewhere either better, or cheaper.

Most schools will either limit the amount of CC credits you can transfer....or simply require 18-30 hours at the upper level (300 and 400 level). Your sitting on right at 90 credits....you really only need to satisfy any General ed requirements (you seem to have most) and complete 30 UL credits and you would be done with say a learner designed general BS/BA at COSC, or liberal studies degree at EC or TESC. I would bust that out by the end of the year and be ready to start an MBA by January.

Is your FAFSA a grant or loans? I would do anything I could to NOT take out a loan. Your PELL grant will go further at COSC than anywhere else if you use it flexibly.

Great advice on focusing on the bachlors. I really want to ge it done by January but unsure how my credits will transfer.Thomas Edison may be my best bet with caughtioisly taking courses at Penn Foster that have Ace approval. I wish they had a generic quick transfer response.

As far as the MBA goes it's something I want to knock out quickly at an accredited institution. I agree though that I need to focus on the bachelors. Any advice on looking into how my courses willtransfer without transcripts ? Anyways thanks again and awesome job on going after the MBA.
