BS Cybersecurity with Excelsior
#1
Hello everyone! I am new here and I am happy to see the incredible amount of support available for people like me who are not only new, but lost.  Smile

I am seeking to pursue a BS in Cybersecurity from Excelsior. I have an A.S. in a completely different field (Merchandising) and I am not sure if my credits are transferable or not. I was wondering how do I go about finding out without actually enrolling in the school. Can I just compare my transcript with the school requirements? Or is it more complicated than that? Also, is there a roadmap that I can follow to take courses on my own and then transfer the credits to Excelsior?

Please excuse the ignorance. And thank you all for your help.

Maria

Hi Maria,

Does it have to be Excelsior (and if so, why, if I may ask)?

Your credits will not be evaluated as a degree, but as individual credits. List your credits here, and someone may be able to help figure out what will and will not fit in a degree plan. Nothing can really replace applying and sending in your transcripts, though.

It doesn't have to be excelsior. I've been trying to navigate through all the information I am reading and it seems that they are generous with their credit transfer policies. I am open for suggestions though. I am in the very initial stages of making a decision.

Good idea. I am going to request my transcript in the next few days and then post here. Thanks so much.

Thomas Edison State University and Charter Oak State College are also generous. However, it might be cheaper to earn your degree at Western Governors University or some other school with competency-based programs since there aren't a lot of alternative, cheap sources for cybersecurity credits.

I'll second what sanantone said - WGU is going to be your best bet for Cybersecurity, since you're not bringing in any UL credits from a 4-yr school. First, they will bring in your AS a a block transfer for your GE's. Second, they will allow you to take inexpensive alternative credits for some of your easy-to-find major courses. And third, they will give you industry certs as you pass courses.

I just finished the WGU program myself. WGU currently has free enrollment, so it's just a matter of sending your transcripts.

I'm another member of the WGU cult here recommending them Wink

Honestly though I was and continue to be very happy with the experience I had getting my degree at WGU. I would definitely do it again if I was starting over.
