BA to MA Transfers
#1
A while ago I was told by counselor at UMPI they're going to be subbing 3 of my undergrad classes I did at UMPI to take the place of three of my masters classes. Thus giving me 25% of my degree done.

BUS 335 Organizational Behavior, this will double as OLS 550
BUS 440 Business Analytics, this will double as OLS 610
BUS 469 Strategic Professional Communication, this will double as OLS 620

I found this incredibly interesting and incredibly motivating. From how it sounded (the tone) that this seems to be a temporary thing while they're staffing up. But, it could also be the start of a potential BA to MA program.

I thought I'd share so others know.

I would suggest not reaching out to UMPI about this and asking too many questions, as we don't want to overwhelm them and stress them out over this. This is a very new development and they're likely not yet done or ready to announce it yet. Best thing to do is be patient and wait for more information to come out voluntarily, don't go digging for it.

This is very common if your bachelor's is in the same subject as your master's program. My son applied to a MSW program and having a BSW (which he doesn't) saved you a full year. Similarly when my other son was researching MBA programs, they told him he could skip three courses because he had a business degree. The courses in question overlapped with courses he took as an undergrad. As I recall, they also required that the undergrad work was fairly recent, but I don't remember an exact time frame.

This is common in our public university system here in NC as well. One of my colleagues was able to take grad classes in her senior year that counted for both undergrad and graduate work. When she went into her master's program, she already had four classes completed. My youngest son is going this route as well. His university has a pathway from BSCS to MSCS that allows him to take graduate classes his senior year. He'll graduate with his BS in December of 2022 and complete his MS by December of 2023.

Yes, I agree, some colleges/universities have the Bachelors to Masters option and I highly recommend taking these as it provides an opportunity to complete both Bachelors and Masters in a shorter time frame, many can be done within 3-5 years. I mean, if you couple that with dual credit for high school students and alternative credit, this is a viable option for cheap, easy, fast undergraduate degrees with an option for graduate classes and possibly a graduate degree within 3-5 years total.
