New here & hoping to find some clarification about earning Biology credits at TESU. If I take CLEP Biology w/ a separate lab, does that exempt me from the Gen. Bio I & II w/ lab course requirement at TESU? Most schools won't accept CLEP Biology for a science major, so I'm wondering how things are done at TESU.
If I go ahead & take the Bio courses at a community college, will TESU give me elective credit for the CLEP Bio test? Obviously, I won't waste my time if I can't get credit for both.
I'm sure I will have many other questions, so PLEASE give me the "inside scoop" regarding a Biology degree from TESU. Any insights are welcomed & appreciated!
Thanks a ton for the help, guys!

You won't be "exempted" by completing the CLEP and labs separate. There's no exemption allowed, but it won't be needed. You'll get credit for the lecture portions of Bio I and II with the CLEP. You'll get credit for the labs by completing the labs. However, a standalone lab for bio II is nearly impossible to find online. You'll likely have to end up taking the lecture and lab portions together for bio II.

Can I ask why Biology? Usually a Biology degree has a step 2 plan.
Word of warning almost all step 2 plans want you to have taken your science classes in person.

Thanks for the insights! I'm actually thinking of doing both things - taking the Bio CLEP *and* taking the Gen. Bio I & II courses w/ lab at the community college. On TESU's listing, Bio CLEP covers Bio 111 & Bio 112 w/out lab, but the bio courses I'll take at the community college are actually slightly higher level for science majors. So, I'm wondering if I can get credit for both things & use that 6 credit CLEP for my general electives.
Thanks for the help!!! I greatly appreciate it.

Biology because I want to work with animals - eventually in a zoo/ wildlife/ conservation field. So, a BA in Biology is just my starting point. I found sanantone's degree plan for a BA in Biology & it looks like most things can be completed online. There might be a few classes that I'll have to take at a local college, but it looks like I can finish the bulk of it via distance learning. Please correct me if I'm wrong! I'm trying to hold out on enrolling at TESU so I don't have to pay a year advising "tax." So, any insights I can get here are appreciated. Thanks again!

I figured I'd include my degree plan, too, so you guys can give me some input. Thanks for all the help!!!
* Ooops! The Gen Bio classes I'll take at the community college are not 200 level, like I wrote on my degree plan. They're actually just a step above a basic bio class for non-science majors. Sorry for that mix-up. I'm still hoping to get credit for *both* the CLEP Bio (for general electives) and the Gen Bio I & II classes. Any thoughts? Thanks, guys!!!

I would recommend if you are continuing on in your education as in a Masters etc if they accept Testing out or whatever for science classes. For example, for me to enter into Med School I basically have to take a post bac and to take the post bac I have to NOT take more than 2 science courses. I also cannot test out of English Comp... So in case your education will go further than the BA in Bio make sure you know not only the requirements for Admission but what the average matriculant they accept has.

Thanks for the great points! I'm actually not trying to test out of Bio, I'm trying to get extra credit (general electives) for the Bio CLEP. I still intend to take Gen. Bio I & II w/ lab at a community college. I'm just wondering if TESU will give me 6 elective credits *in addition* for the CLEP Bio. It seems an easy enough test to pass, and who can't use 6 more elective credits?

Community college courses are always 100 or 200-level when transferred to TESU. The CLEP transfers in as the highest general bio courses TESU has in their database. I'm pretty sure your CC courses will duplicate.

I doubt it. Most of the course material is the same, and they know it.
Another thing is I believe Bio I doesn't count for the 16 AoS credits at all, if that's what you were thinking. AoS is made up of the 9 theory credits, 4 cr Bio II, and 3 cr electives that are 200, 300, or 400 level. Bio I and II are not options for the theory credits. Bio I would just fulfill the Gen Ed science as far as I know.
