I'm just wondering if it would be possible for me to take my credit by exam courses, transfer them over to TESC or Excelsior, get an associates. Then use that at a Uni that does not accept more than 30 credits by exam? Would I be able to take an additional 30 credits on top of that associates, if there residency requirement was only 30 credits? Obviously, I may have to take a class or two for the associates. But don't schools just transcribe CBEs to their equivalent? So wouldn't the school treat it as if I took a bunch of pass/fail courses, and maybe a couple letter grades?
Would they care if I have some ALEKS math on the hypothetical associates?
Thanks

It's likely that you can pull it off, but it depends on the policies of the individual receiving school. Short answer is yes, real answer is ask the final institution. Even with an AA/AS they may not accept all your acquired credits.
Where are you wishing to transfer to?

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this). Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Thanks for the reply. I'm still a bit unsure, but I've seen several schools that accept 90 credit transfers, but limit credit by exam to only 30 credits. I was thinking about going to get an associates at one of the "big three", and then going for a bachelors at Cal State or one of the SUNY colleges. Yes, I'm well aware of Empire State, I'm just assessing my options. Are you aware of any other Universities that may accept a transfer like this?

What you are proposing works in Texas under specific conditions. If you get an A.A. or A.S. from a public institution in Texas AND you transfer to a public university in Texas, the four year university must accept your associate's degree. It is possible to obtain an associate's degree in Texas by taking 18 hous online and using CLEP and DSST for the remaining 42 hours. Your core courses will definitely transfer, even if they are from exams. If there would be a problem transferring any courses, it would be with the electives.
63 CLEP Sociology
75 CLEP U.S. History II
63 CLEP College Algebra
70 CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature
68 DSST Technical Writing
72 CLEP U.S. History I
77 CLEP College Mathematics
470 DSST Statistics
53 CLEP College Composition
73 CLEP Biology
54 CLEP Chemistry
77 CLEP Information Systems and Computer Applications

EC transcripts state very clearly that credits are CLEP credits, DSST credits, ALEKS credits, NFA credits, etc. The exam credits are not changed to equivalent courses, with the exception of ECEs.
I asked a similar question earlier this year. Maybe you will find some useful info here:

Also, search posts by Cookderosa for "articulation agreement". That may be a better option for you.
