BYU vs. LSU for English/Lit Classes - Which is the Better Choice?
#1
Hi All!

Working on my BA in English at TESC and trying to finish up as quickly as possible. Several very helpful board members have recommended that I look into taking courses via LSU or BYU for upper level coursework and transferring the credit over.

Between the two options (BYU vs. LSU) can anyone tell me how they compare? Just wondering about degree of difficulty and amount of time involved. I was recently laid off from my job so I have more time than usual to focus on school and if possible, would like to knock these courses out before September. In the opinion of the board, can this reasonably be done via either route (BYU or LSU)? I should mention that I'm also carrying a 9 credit course load at TESC at the moment.

Does anyone have any experience with either school? I'm thinking particularly in terms of their U/L American Lit courses (hoping these will fulfill TESC's U/L Survey of Lit I & II requirements).

Thanks in advance everyone!! Smile

The Survey of Literature requirement is not an UL requirement, so I think you could fulfill it with either the American Literature or English Literature CLEP exams (verify that with TESC). You just need 18 UL credits, and your electives can fulfill that requirement. If you were to take the American Literature CLEP perhaps you could complement it with the two UL survey courses from LSU in British Literature.
BYU and LSU have some different offerings, so you can choose based on that as well. I would initially take only one or two IS courses while you are carrying a 9 semester load at TESC.

This thread is a few months old, but I wanted to add some information for potential students.

I e-mailed LSU and they said they would participate in consortium agreements, BYU said they would not. Why does this matter? If you are interested in taking the courses and need them to be payed for by or to maintain your full-time status with financial aid, like me, this is a pretty important consideration. If that is what you are looking for then LSU is the way to go. I guess if you have some money to blow and it doesn't really matter then choose based off of their course offerings. From what I have read, I think you could probably finish a course at BYU faster. LSU quoted me 9-12 weeks as the fastest time. So, there's that, too.

Just thought I would throw that out there in case any one else is in my position.
