Associate In Arts From TESC
#1
Are the following considered Humanities by TESC:
Humanities clep (6 credits)
Intro to World Religions DSST (3 credits)
Ethics in America DSST (3 credits)

Also, does the following look accurate as far as having the requirements for an AA from TESC? In a nutshell I'm thinking I would need the above mentioned 12 credits plus have a question about the computer requirement mentioned below. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

The following are credits from Texas A&M University from 25 years ago that could go toward an AA degree from TESC :
I. General Education Requirements
A. English Composition 6
English 103 Composition & Rhetoric 3
English 104 Composition & Rhetoric 3
B. Humanities 12
Have no humanities. If Humanities clep, world religions dsst & ethics in America dsst are considered humanities they could be used to fulfill this requirement.
C. Social Sciences 12
History 105 History of the US 3
History 106 History of the US 3
Political Science 206 American Natl. Govt. 3
Political Science 207 State & Local Govt. 3
D. Natural Science & Mathematics 9
Math 102 Algebra 3
One Computer Science Course RECOMMENDED. Have no computer science. If necessary could take computer clep exam but why spend an extra $100.00 if not necessary. Does anyone know if this is REQUIRED or just recommended (ie will TESC let me get by without it since I have the necessary nat sci & math credits of 9) ??
Chemistry 101 & 111 (Gen. Chem w/lab) 4
Chemistry 102 & 112 (Gen. Chem w/lab) 4
E. General Education Electives 9
Psychology 107 Intro to Psychology 3
Math 103 Plane Trigonomentry 3
Chemistry 227 & 237 (Organic Chem. w/lab) 4
II. Free Electives 12
Physical Education (PE) (TESC will accept up to 4) 4
Chemistry 228 & 238 (Organic Chem. w/lab) 4
FEMA (recently aquired) 6

Credits not needed:
Epsy 101 Improvement of Learning 1
Agri 101 Modern Agricultural Systems 1
Mgmt 105 Intro to Business 3 ( made a "D" so not sure it would transfer)
EDG 105 Engineering Graphics 2

C) Social Sciences 12 Credits

Hist. Vietnam War DSST (HIS-351 EQ)
Psycology Women TECEP (Psy-270 EQ)
Intro to PSY CLEP (Not taken yet)
I had Self asses & Career awaiting approval of Intro To Soc. CLEP

D) Mathmatics 3 credits College level math

Mat-129 College Trig.

E) Natural Sciences 6 credits

Mat 121 Collge Algebra
I took Info Sys & Comp App CLEP but it comes up on my eval as COS 101 Intro to Computers

F) General Ed Electives 9 credits

Organic Chem I CHE-341 (5 Credits)
General Chem II CHE-122 (4 credits)

Free Electives 12 credits

Word Processing Fund. TECEP (SES-131 EQ)
General Chem I CHE-120 (4 credits)
Organic Chem II CHE- 342 (5 credits)

1 unused credit Aerobic dancing PEA-199

This evaluation has been approved except for the changes I noted. I think using General & Organic Chem I & II as general Ed or Free electives is a little crazy but that is what they came up with. It seems like the courses you have are very similiar.

Good Luck
Linda

Hey Paul, you should get an advisor's professional opinion, but I think you can take the CLEP English Comp with essay and NOT DUPLICATE your existing English credit. If so, that's an awesome (and easier) way to earn 6 humanities credits. The CLEP is for ENG101 and ENG102...so you should be good. Also, for your remaining 6, I would strongly consider the CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature exam over the other tests you mentioned. A&I is essentially a reading comprehension test. Search here for detailed info about the exam. If it were me, I would knock both of those tests in one day and move on. Those are your easiest 12 credits and for the low price of 2 tests! (when I say no study- you should know that I mean you will still absolutely have to brush up your skills, but I mean it won't be learning a new subject)

Computer class- ask for it to be waived.

So, if I am reading your plan, you only need 2 tests? Wow, that looks awesome! By the way, are you planning on putting all that math and science credit to work on a science degree? The hard part is finding lab credit, which you already have! (It makes my brain hurt just thinking about you thinking about it)
Just wondering Wink

Lindagerr are you taking the chem classes through them? If not who? Also do any include lab credits?
#5
I took the chem classes over 20 years ago at my local CC. The only actual class I took through TESC is Children's Lit. all the rest were transfer credits or testing.

I looked for a place to take any chem credits online to get even a chem minor for my BS. The classes with lab are few and far between. One I did find was a general chem for non chem majors. That was at North Carolina at Wilmington. Other then that I don't know of any.

By the way Paul No one ever said I had to take a computer course, so I don't know about waving the need.

Nope, those are lab credits and must be taken as a class. The CLEP chemistry exam is worth 6, but you'll only get 3 credits for Chem101.
I'm taking Intro to Chem for 4 credits with lab, I'm doing it online here:
Ocean County College
Our semester starts Jan 25th, so plenty of time to sign up.

Thank you, I see I totally in trouble.
Now I will not make it on time to get into nursing.
As I understood there is no online classes for chem 101 either.(I found one on Minnesota onlinewebsite, but it is 3 credit)
Or is there? 4 credit one?
may be this is possible?
Does anybody know?
:o
