I thought the same thing too. However, when I checked the Edx website, it looks like at least one of the courses is available to earn credit. According to Edx's Alternative Credit Project page, to earn credit you have to take the course using the Verified Certificate Option. Right now, the Nonlinear Differential Equations: Order and Chaos course is showing as having that option available for $49. Hopefully the other two become available soon
That course is not one of the ones that's ACE-recommended. The only ones you can take are the ones by Boston University (BUx). Also, the ACP/ACE recommendation expires on 3/31/18, and there's a good possibility they won't be renewed.
You're right about the expiration date. However, the course (ACPE-0138) is ACE recommended at least until 3/31/2018.
The course you listed is NOT one of the ACE-recommended courses. It is just one where you can take it on EdX for free, or pay $49 for a certificate for it. It is not, nor has it been, ACE-recommended.
The ones that ARE ACE-recommended must be taken live, and none of them have course dates on them, so they probably won't be offering them before they expire. They don't even offer the ability to get the $49 certificate unless you take them live.

The course is offered by BUx and was recommended for ACE credit. The verified option is used to identify that it's you that took the course and requires you to show a valid ID (similar to the way ProtorU does.) There is no requirement for a course to be "live" and the verified option is available for this course. I've listed both Edx's requirements and the ACE catalog listing below.
From Edx:
How it Works
- Find a course listed below that you are interested in taking
- Visit www.alternativecreditproject.com to see which college or university accepts the course for credit
- Take the course with the Verified Certificate option. The cost varies by course, but will be less than $300 USD/course for all ACE approved courses. You must have a passing grade of 70% or higher to qualify for the ACE credit initiative.
- Request a transcript from ACE. Once you create an account you select the course you completed and the appropriate educational institution. Be sure to search for the courses under the organization title Alternative Credit Project Ecosystem.
- Apply for admissions at the college or university that accepts the credit and transfer the credit
From ACE:
Nonlinear Differential Equations: Order and Chaos (edX) (Math226.3x)
Credit Type:
Course
ACE Course Number:
0138
Organization:
Alternative Credit Project Ecosystem
Length:
5 weeks (50 hours)
Dates Offered:
4/1/2015 - 3/31/2018
Objective:
The course objective is to learn the mathematical theory of nonlinear differential equations and their application to systems such as the pendulum, the glider, and the weather.
Learning Outcome:
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to apply the theory of linear systems to nonlinear systems near equilibrium points; use null clines to simplify phase plane analysis, and discuss systems with conserved quantities, dissipative systems, and gradient systems; and understand of chaotic systems using the Lorenz system as the primary example.
Instruction:
Methods of instruction include audiovisual materials, case studies, computer-based training, discussion, lecture, and practical exercises. General course topics include nonlinear differential equations.
Assessment:
Methods of assessment include quizzes and examinations with a minimum passing score of 70 percent.
Credit Recommendation:
In the upper-division baccalaureate degree category, 3 semester hours in applied non-linear systems, applied non-linear differential equations, engineering mathematics, or applied mathematics (9/15).
